Have you heard?

Information security is one of the fastest growing industries, and Rapid7 is at the forefront, helping companies all over the world engineer better security.

At the core of what we do is a fun and inviting community where everyone has the opportunity to do what they love… And there's a lot to love here.

Yes, we are a cool place to work. Over the past several years we've been named one of the Best Places to Work in Boston by the two leading local publications, the BBJ and Boston Globe, and we’ve also been listed among the top 100 tech companies in Austin by Built in Austin. While great, this does not define our culture.

To be a true Rapid7 culture fit, you need to embody our Core Values. These are not just words hanging on a wall or decorating a coffee cup…

Established by a team of our own people and embraced by all who work here, they are what allow us to scale and evolve; regardless of location, team, and role. We hire for them, reward based on them, and weave them into the everyday fabric of our company. Want to see if you fit?

Our Core Value Compass

Show Me The Money

Yes, we pay competitively. We evaluate performance and compensation on an annual basis. However, it's not enough to just come to work and do your job. Those who see the big increases balance their skills with a great attitude, have a strong aptitude to grow, and embody our core values.

We may hire you for a specific role, but one of the best parts of working at a fast growth company is the ability to take on as much as you are capable of. Continuous learning is one of our core values, and we understand it’s vital to your growth – and ours. As you prove yourself here, there are opportunities not just to move up, but to explore other teams and opportunities around the company. If you are creating impact, Rapid7 is a fantastic place to develop your career.

Think You are a Rockstar?

Aside from promotions, career growth, and compensation adjustments, we have a number of ways for you to be recognized.

Our Moose Awards are a quarterly recognition, celebrating those people who best exhibit our core values. They are announced at our company-wide Town Hall meetings. They are peer nominated, and winners are selected by our executive team. The winners receive a stuffed Moose (our company mascot) and a cash prize. To win one is kind of a big deal.

Our guitar picks are also employee-driven. They are a daily way of people being able to recognize each other for fantastic, above-and-beyond work. Not only does the recipient get a physical guitar pick, but they also are posted in our "Hall of Fame" where everyone in the company can celebrate them.

Rapid7 is engineering better security with simple, innovative solutions for IT security's most critical challenges. Our security data and analytics solutions collect, contextualize, correlate, and analyze the security data you need to dramatically reduce threat exposure and detect compromise in real-time. They speed investigations so you can halt threats and clean up systems fast. Plus, our analytics give you the specific information you need to systematically improve security processes within your organization. Unlike traditional vulnerability assessment or incident management, Rapid7's comprehensive data collection, attacker intelligence and user-behavior analytics give you immediate insight into the security state of your assets and users from the endpoint to the cloud. We offer unmatched capabilities to spot intruders leveraging today's #1 attack vector, compromised credentials. Our ability to help goes beyond our innovative technology. Rapid7 security experts can help you advance your security program, whether you need emergency breach response or to transform your security processes and better align investments to your organization's risk and needs. Rapid7 is trusted by more than 3,500 organizations across 78 countries, including 30% of the Fortune 1000.

I have been working at Rapid7 full-time (More than 3 years)

    - Company culture is big on teamwork and collaboration
    - Many learning resources and support channels at your disposal
    - Really great and unique opportunities for individual growth
    - Your success here is more in your control than you think
    - Company is going in the right direction in the security market (short- and long-term)

There's so much great work happening at Rapid7 today and that's been happening over the past few years. The most important thing to realize about working at Rapid7 is that your destiny here is largely within your control, more than some people realize and more than you would experience at a typical medium to large sized company. This doesn't mean that every day working here is going to be a dream come true without any frustration or emotional turbulence. What it does mean, though, is that working through issues and challenges *can* be easier than at other, less exceptional companies.

It's hugely important to realize that the Human Resources department here (called People Strategy) is an invaluable resource when it comes to dealing with, for example, work-life imbalances, negative team culture, or frustrating/obnoxious/offensive/overbearing coworker behavior. When working here, you should always be working with your manager on any issues you're having at work, but People Strategy is an essential resource to leverage if 1) you have a great, present manager but need a second opinion 2) you have a great manager who isn't around as often as you'd like and when you need help or 3) you have a crappy manager who is either causing the problems you're experiencing or isn't helpful in resolving them.

On top of that, if you're trying to grow your personal skill sets, there are a lot of learning resources and opportunities at your disposal. Whether it's using online training classes, getting books ordered for you/your team, or shadowing other teams in an effort to make a career path change, it's mostly a matter of what you want to do/learn and when you can make time to do it (emphasis on "mostly" - sure, there are exceptions to every rule).

You can be successful, engaged, and excited working here if you're not afraid to ask questions, not afraid to experiment, not afraid to push yourself out of your comfort zone, not afraid to collaborate closely with many other people on various teams, all while realizing that you're part of a larger whole (not that you're just here to make *you* better, to work only/mostly on what *you* want to work on), working toward a common goal, and that you engage in that cross-company collaboration with a positive outlook, a resilient mindset, and an acceptance of the fact that you'll stumble, fail, and humiliate yourself occasionally. Also, as our CEO likes to say, don't be an a--hole.

This isn't a perfect company. But it is unlike any other company that I know of. There are many opportunities to have a positive impact and positive influence here, and it can be incredibly rewarding if you honestly believe that you're in control of your destiny here - and then act on that belief every day.

    - Some teams can have a negative and sometimes toxic culture because of a few bad apples (partly because of bad apples in management positions)
    - Work-life imbalances can easily occur if you don't make an explicit effort to keep it in balance

Any "con" you experience at Rapid7 needs to be tackled head on by you. Yes, there will usually be people around you - like your manager - who will see you dealing with an issue or being on the receiving end of a problem, and they'll proactively try to provide support. But do not expect that someone *else* will always be aware of issues you're dealing with, or that they will proactively help you resolve them (usually they will!)

As difficult as it can be sometimes, you have to tackle issues you experience here head on. You have to raise them with your manager, whose primary purpose at Rapid7 is to support you. In some cases you should also work with People Strategy - they're not your typical HR department. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to check with them - even if you're not sure if an issue you're dealing with is a super big issue - when you're dealing with a problematic situation.

    Advice to Management

Continue pushing forward with providing structured management training for new *and* existing managers and leaders to help bolster positive team and company culture with strong and positive leadership influences.

Keep communicating clearly and frequently with the company about the company's vision and how we're all working together to accomplish it. It helps a lot when people realize that they're not just a single cog in a large machine with no clear attachment to the overall company's success/vision: clarifying how a single person can connect the dots from their work -> team's projects/goals -> department's projects/goals -> company's projects/goals instills a sense of purpose that can boost a person's self-drive.

I applied online. I interviewed at Rapid7 (Boston, MA).

Unfortunately I'll have to echo quite a few of the reviews below. I applied for a position. Interviewed a bit, was told I was a great fit, and then heard nothing back. Not a thank you for your time, we went with someone else, nothing. And, to top it all off, the position I applied for is still listed online and even shows up as a newly posted position on other sites now.
