Raven Industries – Why Work For Us?

Raven was founded in Sioux Falls, SD, in 1956 as a designer and manufacturer of high-altitude research balloons for the American space program to help solve the great challenges related to space exploration. From that single product line, we grew into a successful and highly diversified technology company.

Today, our purpose to Solve Great Challenges is bold and authentic; it keeps us grounded in markets that have meaning, provide profitable growth, and align with our values. We are focused on these Great Challenges:

  • Feeding a growing population by improving agricultural efficiency around the world
  • Protecting our natural resources
  • Saving and improving lives through advanced situational awareness
  • Connecting the world

For over 60 years, collaboration, creative thinking, and problem solving have been woven into all that we do. While Raven is organized into distinct business units, our team members work together as One Raven.

  • Engineering staff who invent, design, and customize our advanced products and solutions
  • Sales and technical support staff who partner with our customers and work with them in the field to ensure their success
  • Manufacturing team members who build our products from the ground-up, focusing on quality every step of the way
  • Professional and administrative staff who manage the organization and support daily operations at all levels

While our values have endured for decades, Raven's history of success is the direct result of our extremely talented and hard-working team members.

I have been working at Raven Industries full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Never have I worked for a company that is truly interested in growing its team members. Personally I have worked for 26 different companies in my life, and have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. Raven ranks up there with the best of those. 5 years ago I started as a team member, worked in a couple of divisions, and multiple areas within each. Utilizing free resources like Raven U I studied leadership, worked hard and became a production lead, then a couple of years later a production supervisor.
Okay, so why am I telling you my story? I am trying to convey that those whom are willing to put in the effort will not only be rewarded, but supported the whole way.
The culture is ever moving towards positive and collaborative atmosphere. Dropping walls/barriers between areas or even divisions to promote a companywide unity to solving those great challenges.

    Cons

With being a customer driven industry can mean being unexpectedly busier or less so then anticipated.

    Advice to Management

Every business has its challenges, and can make wrong decisions. I firmly believe that is not the mistake warrants attention, but how it is resolved. I really feel their has been positive strides the last couple of years towards a stronger and more resilient Raven.

    Application

I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Raven Industries.

    Interview

Was very laid back and comfortable. Some technical questions (like expected) but were very patient and keen to see problem-solving methods rather than the correct answer. I liked that there was a lot of emphasis on non-technical questions relating to the person. Was able to let them know if I didn't know something, I would be able and willing to learn it.

    Interview Questions

    • It was a technical question relating to indexing multiple arrays with lookup-time constraints. Don't remember a lot of it but it was fairly vague.   1 Answer
