Featured Roles and What They Do
Our Account Executives serve as the initial business contact for the doctor client and are responsible for onboarding, engagement and upselling. Their focus is to consistently provide excellent customer service to accounts, as well as represent client needs and goals within the organization to ensure quality of service and retention.
Our Customer Service Representatives not only work to connect customers with their chosen doctors, but also serve as a direct line to RealSelf customers. They gather customer feedback and use that rare insight to improve the service we provide as a team and company.
Our Software Developers are the backbone of the organization, providing real-time value to users by consistently and rapidly shipping high-quality tests and features to our site and app. They collaborate daily with other Software Developers and product-focused contributors.
This team works to acquire, onboard, engage, upsell, and retain providers in order to support the RealSelf marketplace and revenue growth for the company.
This team works to support and enable rapid, iterative product development, generate significant customer-centric learnings, and drive sustainable business growth through technology. This team works to ensure appropriate resource allocation against strategic initiatives and support business in decision analysis (Financial Planning & Analysis) and to manage day-to-day business operations including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial accounting, reporting, systems, and tax (Accounting).

The RealSelf Fellowship awards funding to medical professionals who donate their time and expertise to deliver care and training in underserved communities around the world.
More than a dozen doctors have been named RealSelf Fellows and received aid for humanitarian medical trips around the world. From helping burn victims in Haiti to repairing cleft palates in Vietnam and so much more.
I worked at RealSelf full-time (More than a year)
Honestly, I worked here for about two years and I was able to learn and grow so much within my role. Coming in at a point where there was fast growth, I was able to experience it with an amazing team and a wonderful manager. She taught me how to perform various functions of my job and the best part was giving me the ownership to manage these processes and find ways to improve them, or even create my own. Being able to manage my career is something that's not easily found at other jobs and it's something I definitely will miss. Also, the team morale is awesome. I was able to play with the soccer team, participated in bottle fridays, looked forward to the holiday parties and bust a break dance move or two, and got along with basically everyone at the company. Oh, and the snacks & coffee were awesome. I've never worked for a company that allows dogs in the office and provides pet insurance, takes the office out to sporting events in the Seattle area or other fun things, and so much more. This work/life balance is amazing as well.
I was fortunate enough to work for a fantastic finance team with a great manager, and the only cons I can think of were the rapid growth the company faced at times. With much work to do, there were only so many people able to do it all but a pro to add to this is that I was not alone through any of it. The major con is that no other company (at least that I can think of) will be able to top this so RS sets the bar super high. Other small cons include; some barking in the office and loud noise or heavy traffic when events go on at the stadiums nearby.
Advice to Management
Giving your employees ownership and letting their voices be heard will definitely benefit the team/company over time.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at RealSelf (Seattle, WA) in June 2018.
I was contacted by a recruiter after applying online. The process was a phone screen, discussing what I was looking for and giving me some background about the company, its mission, and some of the cool perks. After that, I got a take home technical screen; python and sql problems that took about 4 hours to complete. The exercises were not incredibly hard but solid enough to make you think about it. At no point did i have to do the dreaded whiteboard interview, which was great. I felt like I got to put my best effort forward on the tech screen. After I submitted my screen, I had a one hour conversation with the hiring manager. The conversation was personal and I felt like they made a real effort to get to know me, and understand what I found important. They Invited me to participate in an onsite loop at the office in pioneer square. They just moved to another floor in their building, so some of the cramped space comments looked to be alleviated. The office is very modern but also kinda cozy, with lots of communal space and it wasn't particularly loud. The loop had me meet with four people from different departments and the hiring manager. Each one was a little different, and I think the focus was simply to find out if I was the kind of person they wanted to work with. Again, not really any white-boarding, but some asked the standard behavioral questions, others asked a bit about the business model and some hypothetical business questions. The loop was about 3.5 hours, but everyone was on time and there wasn't any downtime, so it felt pretty quick. All in all the process is well managed, the recruiters are quick and communicative, and the interviewers were friendly, professional, and really excited about RealSelf.
