Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

    Terrible. My initial recruiter screen lacked any kind of enthusiasm with zero knowledge of the role. I went on to speak to the hiring manager, who was almost 10 minutes late to our call and didn’t even acknowledge their tardiness. Some people actually take time off to interview, so a little respect for their time would be nice. The HM went on and on about how many other candidates they were interviewing for this role. That’s great and all, but it’s really not something you should be bragging about or throwing in someone’s face. I elected not to move forward with the process. There’s something off with this company.
