Yesterday, some of our employees volunteered at Second Helpings, preparing food for meals distributed through service agencies that feed people in need. Way to go, team!
We fondly call employees that leave Return Path and come back "boomerangs." The title is appropriate - and are proud to have welcomed back 6 boomerangs so far this year! Interested in returning? View our open positions: http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQVhH

Thinking like owners means we step back to work OTB. We exercise great judgment about where we invest our time and our money, and we challenge colleagues at any level when things don’t make sense. We like to aim high and be bold. We aren’t afraid to take risks and make mistakes in order to create something new or improve upon something. We learn fast from both our successes and our failures.
There’s no shortage of characters here. We are sometimes quirky, sometimes dry, often opinionated, frequently funny, but we always have the purpose of making each other, our company and our clients successful. We aren’t a traditional “work hard, play hard” culture, but we do like to have fun together and make each other laugh.
We set a high bar for ourselves in order to deliver high quality products and services. We deliver what we say we will for clients and partners and aim to go beyond what is expected. This means taking ownership for and standing by our results, while never settling for anything less. High performance is driven by smart, hard working, dedicated team members. High performance is enabled by great managers who provide direction and feedback. Without high performance, nothing else matters.
With high performance comes an immense amount of investment in being a great place to work that develops its people. We don’t check our personal lives at the door of the office, and we don’t check our work lives at the door of home. High performers need a lot of freedom and flexibility in order to do their best, most creative work. We are an informal organization where everyone is open, accessible, and responsive. We trust and believe in our people to do great things and treat everyone with respect whether they have been here for one day or ten years. We believe that when people are challenged, supported and rewarded, this will show in their work. We also recognize that high performers need time and space to recharge their batteries, develop as professionals, and have full and rich lives outside of work. Most important, we want to inspire our people to do the best work they can do, rather than control them.
We respond to the needs of our very dynamic market. Our customers have always led us to our best solutions. We also work flexibly and aren’t hemmed in by plans if circumstances on the ground change and call for something else.
We share information about the company’s strategy, performance, and financials so people can make good decisions every day. We provide regular and honest feedback about performance (both good and bad) so both the company and individuals can amplify successes and quickly course-correct problems. No one should be surprised to be fired, and no one should be surprised when someone resigns.
We never shy away from asking questions, and we always leap to answer them. We enable our colleagues to do their best work by providing them with context, history, or details. We help others even when it has nothing to do with our own job. We enable smart decisions for our clients.
We appreciate the contributions of all of our stakeholders—ourselves, our customers, and our shareholders. We give credit where credit is due. There’s no such thing as a thankless task here. We take pride in our company and what we have achieved together. We are thankful for the teams that have made, and continue to make Return Path great. We appreciate our clients and the things we have helped them accomplish. We are grateful for the financial sponsorship of our investors over the course of more than a decade. We believe that a positive attitude makes a huge difference in business performance.
The business is the boss here - we put the needs of the business ahead of our own needs and politics. We expect and assume positive intent from our colleagues at every turn. We do the right thing, even if it means going beyond what is written on paper.
We solve problems together. We keep our commitments and communicate diligently when we can’t. We are always looking for ways to improve and therefore challenge complacency, mediocrity, and decisions that don’t make sense.
We are a data-driven organization and seek to make decisions based on facts at every turn. We also avoid leaping to conclusions when we can start a conversation with a common set of agreed on data. As a learning organization, we first “look in the mirror” to see what we could do differently before approaching others with criticism. We approach topics with intellectual curiosity and seek answers when we don’t know something, when things go right, and when things go wrong.
Equal in Opportunity
Differences in background, experience, and thought in our employee population contribute to the best business outcomes for us as a company. We have a strong commitment to being a welcoming environment for candidates and employees that appreciates and maximizes the talents of all employees. We value our employees’ different backgrounds including differences in gender, race or ethnicity, sexual orientation, religious and political views, nationality, age, and socioeconomic status.
Return Path has partnered with the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT), a not-for-profit community of more than 300 prominent corporations, academic institutions, government agencies, and other not-for-profits organizations working to increase women’s participation in technology and computing. Return Path has an internal committee that meets regularly to discuss and implement initiatives that support our NCWIT partnership. If this is something you’re interested in, speak with a member of the Performance Team.
Because we believe that engaged, fulfilled, and healthy people achieve more, professionally and personally, we take a holistic approach to rewarding our employees. Depending on your role, your performance, and business results, we offer base salary, commission, bonus, stock options, paid time off, great work environment, flexible work arrangements, career paths, and more. Each year you will receive a total rewards statement that summarizes the financial and non-financial investment that Return Path makes in you.
We’ve worked hard to create an environment that you want to come to every day. No matter where you’re located, you’ll find an open workspace, lots of room for collaboration (meeting rooms, labs, cafés), and friendly people. We know brilliant minds get hungry so we provide snacks, drinks, and the occasional lunch or happy hour.
In our larger offices, you might find yoga classes or a masseuse onsite; some field teams for softball, bowling, kickball; some of our people get together for videogames or sword fighting. If your favorite activity isn’t on the list, help us start the group!
Did you know that the average person spends over 2,000 hours of the year at work? Considering that’s more than you’ll spend with your family, the office had better be a great place. At Return Path we believe that success begins and ends with the people who work here—like you. We do our best to foster an environment where you can thrive. We want to make sure that you’re taken care of and feel appreciated so that you can let your passion out and do amazing things. It’s that simple.

Advice to Management
I left RP because of a natural flow of career change. While I was there, I definitely appreciated the unique, engaging environment, but that is even more apparent once you leave. No other company can come close to measuring up to the culture that comes from the top down. It is not a perfect employer - none is - but this is about as close as it gets.
I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Return Path (Broomfield, CO) in July 2016.
This was the longest interview process I've ever gone through. Prepare for the long haul! First, I had a phone screen with the recruiter. Then, a phone interview with the hiring manager. Then, an in-person interview with three people - two peers and one VP. Finally, I had to do a sales pitch via Google Hangouts with two people in sales management. The whole process was lengthy but I think by having such an intensive interview process, RP knew exactly what they would be getting if they hired me, and I knew exactly what I would be getting into if I accepted the offer. It was thorough, and at the time I kept wishing it was shorter and that I got an offer sooner, but in the long run, they do it the right way.
