Technical Account Manager

Being a woman in tech, I only recently started advocating for myself at work about advancement opportunities. Because of this I wanted to ask this question to my male counterparts. When you have 1:1's with your direct reports and talk about career growth / aspirations what is your managers’ response typically? I’d like to gauge how my experience (negative) differs from others. For instance are you met with blockades, enthusiasm, dread, etc?

Cons

Can be chaotic at times - Normal for startup type company May have to wear many hats beyond initial job description - Again normal for startup Performance management could be better

Advice to Management

Its a great place to work. My only advice is to make sure that there are better performance management conversations. If an employee isn't doing a good job, there could be better conversations to

I applied online. I interviewed at RevolutionParts (United States) in Apr 2023

    Interview

Step 1: 30 min phone intervew with recruiter; Step 2: 60 min video interview with CTO. Although the interview booked a week in advance, CTO rain-checked less than two hours before the interview via email from the recruiter and pushed it out a week. (Red flag) No behavioral questions were asked, just background questions and open-ended questions. Conclusion: Objectively, the VPE job sounds like a turnaround job since they canned their prior CTO in late 2022, and their temporary contract-VPE declined to renew -- and so the co-founder had to move from Strategy position back into CTO position. Apparently, up until recently, they had no Dev Mgmt layer (flat org structure), and basically, ~40 people were reporting to VPE with dev tasks being largely self-assigned. Since then, they've added three dev mgrs in an effort to remediate.

Recruiter: Name three unique skills you have, each in two words or less?
