Rocketship educators are tenacious. We are hungry to learn and grow in our pursuit of excellence. We are a collective of parents, teachers, and leaders working together to transform the future for students in low-income communities across our country. At Rocketship Public Schools, we are unleashing potential.

Our philosophy is based on three core beliefs about transformational schools.

TALENT DEVELOPMENT

Transformational teachers and leaders are at the heart of our organization and fuel our success. Teachers specialize by content area, which allows us to prepare and develop impactful learning experiences for our Rocketeers. Purposeful and personalized professional development is woven into teachers’ everyday activities in the form of intensive, customized one-on-one coaching made possible by our low teacher to school leader ratio of six to one.

PERSONALIZED LEARNING

Rocketship is rethinking the traditional school model to meet the unique needs of every child. With a blend of direct instruction, scaffolded practice opportunities, targeted small group instruction and adaptive online learning, our Rocketeers realize their full potential. Our focus on planning and data propels student achievement – our Rocketeers grow over 1.5 years in a single school year – setting them on the path for success in middle school, high school, college and beyond.

PARENT POWER

The power of our partnership with parents underlies our collective impact. Rocketship develops parent leaders in our schools to become lifelong advocates for their children and their community. Whether volunteering in the classroom, hosting a teacher for a home visit, organizing a field trip or meeting with elected officials to address inequities, Rocketship parents are leaders at home, at school and in their community.

undefined

The majority of our Rocketeers start with us well behind grade level. Closing academic gaps and setting our Rocketeers up for success in middle school, high school, college and beyond means we must accelerate their learning every single school year. We don’t just enroll Kinders and count on 5 years at Rocketship to realize the results we’re after. We enroll students at all grade levels every year and strive to deliver well over one year of growth for every year a student is with us.

88% of Rocketeers returned last year.

As a school of choice, the clearest demonstration of our excellence is the number of Rocketeers who choose to come back each year. Every student we serve has a seat at their zoned district school waiting for them. But they choose to come back to Rocketship. We are humbled by this remarkable vote of confidence and work relentlessly to deliver on the promise our families see in our schools every single year. Read about what keeps our Rocketeers coming back year after year in our 2017-18 Year in Review.

You believe in tenacity.

We pursue our goals relentlessly until we achieve them, especially for our Rocketeers. We take courageous steps in our work that lead to excellent outcomes for students. We view each challenge as a hurdle to clear in order to reach our ultimate goal.

You believe in innovation.

We stretch beyond the status quo to challenge our Rocketeers and ourselves. We find or create better ways to make the impossible possible. We take responsible risks in order to make a more positive impact.

You pursue excellence.

We continuously improve our results in response to data and feedback. We strategically prioritize to maximize short and long term solutions. We believe all children can succeed and we continue to courageously work to eliminate the achievement gap within our lifetimes.

I have been working at Rocketship Public Schools full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Culture: Rocketship is like a family. The upper management and network team make a huge effort to take care of their team at all levels. When teacher moral feels low or stressed due to the nature of the job they find ways to make your experience better.
    - Pay: I have worked in lots of different schools and the starting pay and projected pay is loads more than the average first job.
    - Reimbursements: If you live out of the city or state you’re hired in. Rocketship will pay you to move. This was huge for me and my boyfriend. Additionally each school year they give each teacher a chunk of money to spend on supplies that Rocketship doesn’t already have provided.
Resources: Each classroom is loaded with everything you will need, books, math manipulatives, containers, markers, calendars, daily schedules, pocket charts, astrobright paper, sticky anchor chart paper, pencils, and more.
New Teacher Mentorship: If I could go back in time I would seek out Rocketship as a starting job. They have an incredible mentorship program that helps teachers right out of school learn classroom management and teaching curriculum skills that a teacher program wouldn’t have previously provided.

    Cons

Longggg hours, but the pay incentives helps to cushion it. High expectations and if you can’t handle observation this may not be the right fit for you. Rocketship constantly has live coaching, and people in your room observing to give you positive and constructive feedback, be-it in the moment or in a note for you to review afterward.

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Rocketship Public Schools (San Jose, CA) in March 2020.

    Interview

I've been through two phone interviews. They were fairly easy. My next interview is an on campus interview. Recruiters have been supportive and friendly through the process. A lot of information is provided. Make sure to write down notes and ask as many questions as you can.
