    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Roman Catholic Diocese of Boise full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    I enjoyed Incredibly flexible hours.

I was able to bring my daughter to work most days during her first two years.

The work of youth ministry is truly rewarding.

    Cons

Leadership style can change drastically with the placement of a new pastor, and care is not always taken to preserve the institutional memory.

Hourly pay is quite low, and hours can often exceed 60 per week.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the staff before making major decisions. Do not make major changes, unless absolutely necessary, for the first two years of new pastoral placements. Implement cost-of-living increases to budgets and payroll.

    Application

I applied in-person. The process took 8 weeks. I interviewed at Roman Catholic Diocese of Boise (Boise, ID).

    Interview

Extensive interview process, with a panel of stakeholders. I started working roughly 6 weeks after my initial interview, and the scope of the job had changed somewhat from what I had originally applied for.

There is not a great deal of turnover at the parish level, so the staff is not particularly comfortable with the hiring process, which, ironically, makes the process more comfortable for the interviewee.
