    Negative Outlook

I worked at Roth & Lawrence as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

This is where I'd put pro's if I had any, but I don't.

    Cons

First of all, she (Ms. Lawrence, the CEO) said the position was paid. I never got paid for the month's work I did. She made me create a brand new media list for her from scratch. Basically, I was just her free gopher for a month. In all honesty, she essentially used me to get to "white outlets" in Milwaukee. I was cold-calling, driving her around, and trying to promote clients that she got money from and I never earned a cent. She used me, and she'll use you too. STAY AWAY.

    Application

I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at Roth & Lawrence (Milwaukee, WI) in July 2016.

    Interview

Usually I research a company before going in for the interview but didn't get a chance to look past the website. I went to interview and was interviewed by the owner, Ms. Lawrence. She was nice and knowledgeable about her industry. She gave me an assignment and told me to show up to present in two days. I left feeling very confident.

Once I got home and got the chance to Google the company( people, media, etc) I felt very odd about it. What tipped me off were the misspelling in Ms. Lawrence's emails. A PR person should know that spelling mistakes are huge NO.

I then received an email from her associate at the Atlanta office and tired to look him/her up on LinkedIn, nothing. I couldn't find anyone with that name who worked at RL. What's more is that I couldn't find ANYONE who worked at RL with Tam Lawrence. Her website and magazine makes it seem like she has a team of people who work with/for her but there is NOTHING.

I Googled for at least an hour before deciding that the company did not feel legit enough for me to continue with interviewing process. I couldn't find anything on the company besides what she put up. I couldn't find anything about her working in government, which was another red flag. To be in the industry for 15 years without any online presence was odd to me.

Please be careful when interviewing. Maybe I read too much into it while researching but if it feels weird then it's a no-go from me.

On the plus side, the office space she works in is really nice.
