SK Hynix to Further Widen Gap with Competitors in NAND Flash Sector
"SK hynix Inc., South Korea's No. 2 chipmaker, saw its second-quarter net profit surge 75.4 percent from a year earlier Thursday, setting a new quarterly record amid the strong shipments of both dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) and NAND flash products.
Net profit reached a record high of 4.3 trillion won (US$3.84 billion) in the April-June period, compared with 2.4 trillion won posted a year earlier, SK hynix said in a regulatory filing."
"South Korea's President Moon Jae-in hails SK hynix's new plant"
South Korea's President Moon Jae-in on Thursday attended a ceremony marking the construction of new assembly lines of SK hynix, the world's third-largest chipmaker, underscoring his policies for job creation and innovation-powered growth.
SK hynix has four production facilities in Wuxi and Chongqing, China as well as domestic business sites in Icheon and Cheongju. As a global company, SK hynix also operates sales subsidiaries in ten countries including the U.S., U.K., Germany, Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Taiwan and China, and four R&D corporate bodies in Italy, U.S., Taiwan and Belarus. Based on its 30-year-old know-how for production and operation of semiconductor business, SK hynix makes efforts to secure competitiveness in technology and costs and lead the global semiconductor market by conducting continuous R&D activities and investment.
Through our tireless focus on R&D and quality control, SK hynix manufactures highest quality and highest performance DRAM products.
Our principal products include dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) for PCs, laptops and servers, low-power mobile DRAMs, high-speed graphic DRAMs for graphic data processing and consumer DRAMs for the full spectrum of digital devices. Our products support wide array of interfaces, including DDR, DDR2, DDR3 and DDR4 interfaces, to meet our customer needs.
While we at SK hynix strives to meet all of our customers’ needs through innovative R&D and leading edge technology, we are particularly focused on high-capacity, high-performance, low-power premium products to drive our future growth.
While NAND flash was initially used for simple data storage in MP3 players, PMPs, digital cameras and navigational devices, its applications have since expanded to include smartphones, tablet PCs and solid state drives (SSD). As the technology and market share leader, SK hynix is staying ahead of rapid NAND flash industry developments through introduction of higher-speed, higher-capacity products.
SK hynix’s single-level cell (SLC), multi-level cell (MLC) and leading-edge triple-level cell (TLC) products come in wide range of capacities from 128Mb to 512Gb. In addition to our stand along NAND flash products, we provide the best NAND solutions to meet a variety of customer needs through our multi chip package (MCP), embedded flash and SSD solutions.
SK hynix reentered the CMOS image sensor (CIS) business at the end of 2007. CMOS image sensors serve as electronic film and electronic eyes for a variety of IT and consumer devices. While it is a non-memory semiconductor, similarity of production process to that of semiconductor memories gave SK hynix competency to successfully enter the CIS business.
Applications for CIS are expected to dramatically rise in the future. With SK hynix’s CIS products scheduled to be adopted by a wide range of applications--including web cameras, miniaturized medical imaging equipment, and mobile phones—we plan to lead a new chapter in CIS market through high-resolution sensors manufactured on most advanced process technology to meet diverse needs of our customers.
I worked at SK hynix full-time (More than 3 years)
Strong DRAM company and newcomer in the flash industry. Colleagues are nice and have good working attitudes. Very competitive health benefits (zero premium health insurance) and generous PTO days (start with 20 and increase to 22 after one year). Free meals in the cafeteria every day. Have been with this company for >3 years and had a positive experience working there.
