SSM Health – Why Work For Us?

Our Mission

Through our exceptional health care services, we reveal the healing presence of God.

SSM Health is a Catholic, not-for-profit health system serving the comprehensive health needs of communities across the Midwest through one of the largest integrated delivery systems in the nation.  SSM Health was founded in 1872 by the Franciscan Sisters of Mary.

With care delivery sites in  Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin, SSM Health includes 19 hospitals, more than 60 outpatient care sites, a pharmacy benefit company, an insurance company, two nursing homes, comprehensive home care and hospice services, a telehealth and technology company and two Accountable Care Organizations.

Our leading health services, a variety of care locations and affiliations with several rural hospitals in four states (Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri and Oklahoma) all help us provide convenience for the people in the communities we serve.

With more than 1,300 employed physicians and nearly 30,000 employees in four states, SSM Health is one of the largest employers in every community it serves. An early adopter of the electronic health record (EHR), SSM Health is a national leader in EHR integration. The addition of Dean Health System in 2013 brings the number of physician visits across SSM Health to 4 million annually.

Through our exceptional health care services, we reveal the healing presence of God.

Compassion - Respect - Excellence - Stewardship - Community

In 1998, SSM Health spent a year coming up with a single mission statement and values for its entire system. That process involved nearly 3,000 employees at every level of SSM Health, from every entity. Today that mission statement is 13 words -- short by design. Inspired by our founding religious sisters, our mission defines the way we do things. Because those words come from employees, they embrace the mission as their own.

Mission
Through our exceptional health care services, we reveal the healing presence of God.

Values
Inspired by our founding religious sisters, we value the sacredness and dignity of each person.  Therefore, we find these five values consistent with our heritage and ministry:

  • Compassion
We reach out with openness, kindness and concern.
  • Respect
We honor the wonder of the human spirit.
  • Excellence
We expect the best of ourselves and one another.
  • Stewardship
    We use our resources responsibly.
  • Community
We cultivate relationships that inspire us to serve.

SSM Health's Quality Principles

  • Patients and other customers are our first priority.
  • Quality is achieved through people.
  • All work is part of a process.
  • Decision-making by facts.
  • Quality requires continuous quality improvement.

 Vision

Through our participation in the healing ministry of Jesus Christ, communities, especially those that are economically, physically and socially marginalized, will experience improved health in mind, body, spirit, and environment within the financial limits of the system.
