2016 Year in Review at SSM Health

SSM Health is more than a collection of hospitals, physician offices and other outpatient care sites and services.  We are one of the largest integrated health care delivery systems in the nation, focused on providing a truly exceptional experience to those we serve.  Over the course of SSM Health’s 144-year history, growth and transformation have been nearly constant.  Our founding sisters, the Franciscan Sisters of Mary, first began caring for patients in converted homes, which were later replaced with hospitals to meet the needs of the community. They began their ministry in St. Louis and then expanded to reach cities across the Midwest where they recognized a need for health care.  The sisters’ focus on being fully present to the needs in front of them is a commitment that lives on across SSM Health over a century later. 

Today, the ministry of SSM Health is in the capable and compassionate hands of more than 33,000 employees, 9,500 physicians and 4,600 volunteers who also understand the power of presence.  We receive countless letters from patients and families who are grateful for not only the care they received, but also for the individuals who took the time to listen, to understand, to answer their questions, to hold their hand, or even to pray. 

These are the moments when we reveal God’s healing presence in a powerful and enduring way.  As we move into a new year, it is important to reflect back on how far we’ve come and celebrate our many accomplishments.

In 1998, SSM Health spent a year coming up with a single mission statement and values for its entire system. That process involved nearly 3,000 employees at every level of SSM Health, from every entity. Today that mission statement is 13 words -- short by design.   Inspired by our founding religious sisters, our mission defines the way we do things. Because those words come from employees, they embrace the mission as their own.

    Our mission, our presence....at SSM Health, we are called to service. Our vocation allows us to meet that calling. For Mid-Missouri, there is NO PLACE like it!

    Cons

    We are a large organization - it can take a bit to understand the structure and how processes are carried out.

    Application

    I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at SSM Health (Saint Louis, MO) in January 2017.

    Interview

    I applied online by submitting my resume and application. I was then contacted by e-mail by a nursing recruiter. We scheduled a phone interview and from the phone interview scheduled an in person interview. The in person interview was scheduled for a Friday afternoon in which I was informed that it may take up to 2 hours. I arrived for the interview and spoke with the recruiter. She gave me an overview of the interview process for the day as well as benefits and pay. Following this I was interviewed by three charge nurses. They asked a list of questions and discussed the unit in which I had applied. Lastly, I spoke with one of the leaders of the graduate nurse program. She gave me information in great detail about the program and what it has to offer. The staff was very friendly and welcoming.
