Sage – Why Work For Us?

Sage is the market leader for integrated accounting, payroll and payment systems, supporting the ambition of the world’s entrepreneurs.

Like many of the businesses we serve, Sage began as a small business and has grown beyond what seemed imaginable. Today over 13000 colleagues now support millions of entrepreneurs across 23 countries as they power the global economy.

It is these entrepreneurs who are the drivers of prosperity and it’s our privilege and honour to serve them. We take real pride from how many of our customers have flourished and, that our products have grown with them as they moved from start-up to successful, international businesses.

In a world where only the voices of the biggest are heard, we will always fight to hear the voice of the entrepreneur.
An innovator today and tomorrow
Our smart people use the smartest technology to reinvent and simplify business accounting - working with a thriving community of entrepreneurs, business owners, tradespeople, accountants, partners and developers. We enable our customers to focus on their business and help them to leapfrog to the future.
Inventing the future
We are changing the way that millions of businesses track the movement of money through their business. We are also changing the way we do business. And as a FTSE 100 business we believe in a socially-responsible world and we are active in supporting our local communities and invest in making a real difference through the philanthropy of the Sage Foundation (see Tab).

Our customers make life-sacrifices. They take risks to follow their dreams and pursue their passions and, on this, global prosperity is built. They deserve a bigger voice and we will always work hard to champion this noble cause.

We want our colleagues to be the best they can be.  Through our Sage Academy, our colleagues have access to a vast array of learning and development tools.  We help our colleagues improve their English language skills as well as giving everyone 24/7 access to the 3800 digital courses in our learning portal.  Not forgetting our classroom-based courses as well.  You'll see from this we are committed to help our colleagues reach for the sky!

Our comprehensive interactive digital induction programme is designed to help new colleagues get off to a great start at Sage; it walks them through their first 90 days.  Our new starters also have a Sage Ambassador to help guide them throughout the organisation.

In 2015 we introduced these values, which underpin the way we do things

Customers first

Our customers are at the heart of everything we do; they are why we are here, and we wouldn’t exist without them.

Velocity

We are agile and action orientated; we keep things simple, deliver at pace, and overachieve.

Do the right thing

Our colleagues are aligned and we trust one another to do the right thing to enable our customers to succeed.

Innovate

We create new ways of doing things and deliver innovative solutions, which our customers need to help their business grow.

Make a difference

Sage is a great place to work, and our colleagues make a positive difference to our local communities by relentlessly supporting our customers and their businesses to be successful.

We asked Sage colleagues "Why do you love Sage?" and to new starters, "Why did you join Sage?"  We then took all their resposnes and formed this word cloud.  This is what it's like to work here.

Our colleagues feel empowered.  They love the fact it's friendly here at Sage and our work has meaning.  We are inspired by our colleagues and leaders and we are creative.  It's fantastic we feel there's a great work-life balance and career progression is reality.

Nicole Hardin, one of our new colleagues said this about joining Sage, "As a new member of the team I am inspired daily at how everyone lives the company values in everything they do. I feel energized every morning knowing we are the champions of entrepreneurs around the world". Follow Nicole on Twiiter @nichardin

I worked at Sage full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice campus, hardworking coworkers, genuine care for customers (by lower level coworkers) and decent PTO and medical benefits even for new hires.

    Cons

Higher ups couldn't care less about their customers. Constantly changing with what appears to be no goal or direction, just a bunch of out of touch people saying "Oooooo a piece of candy!" over and over. If you work here they will be up your backside every second of the day even when you're doing things exactly as they want.

    Advice to Management

Stop thinking that your strength is your leadership. The human reptile in charge now doesn't know the first thing about the industry. You are not a Microsoft. You are not an Apple. You're not even a Quickbooks. You are a mid level accounting software company, generally for construction, and you're building hype around yourself like you're going to change the world. Which works for some companies. Watching you do this however is like watching a drug addict talk about how he's going to backpack the Appalachian trail. You smile and nod and say "oh bless your heart...".

Also, you hire good people. Leave them the hell alone to save the company for you. Do you know how many of the people on the phones are told every day that the support is the ONLY reason customers aren't jumping ship? Your leadership, which is almost comically embarrassing, is driving away the only people actually retaining customers for you.

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Sage (Lawrenceville, GA) in January 2017.

    Interview

I am currently a Contractor at Sage, through Kelly Serviceso, so the interview was very informal. The process was a bit lengthy, as I received a verbal job offer from one of the Managers, but getting the paperwork from HR thereafter took more than a week.
