Many people ask us, “How does a firm that has small project teams spread across multiple cities at multiple client sites build and maintain its culture and stay connected?” This is, and always will be, a priority for us. A few ways we maintain a connected culture are:


We host annual company-wide meetings and events called SAGECON. Here, employees are able to re-establish personal and professional connections, receive company messages and updates, hear guest speakers, broaden their networks, learn about recent projects at Sagence, participate in training classes, and perhaps most importantly, kick back and have some fun.


Every 4 to 6 weeks, we hold an all employee Firm Update meeting. These open format meetings provide the opportunity for employees to gather together and discuss short and longer term priorities and strategy, business development, including the pipeline of current and upcoming projects, report on quarterly and yearly revenue, and discuss a variety of other topics and activity happening within the firm. Employees are encouraged to attend in person, including a happy hour held after each meeting.


Training classes enable our consultants to not only develop skills, but they also bring people together which allows them to further establish personal and professional connections and broaden their networks.


We publish an internal monthly newsletter to keep everyone up to date on company meetings and events, training courses, business development opportunities, current engagement work, HR-related topics, recruiting, and lots of employee generated content about current events, hobbies, and interests. We also provide the opportunity for employees to confidentially ask questions to which the management team responds.

Our Interview Process
Take the first step toward your future with Sagence.

Our interview process allows us to get to know one another over the course of a number of phone and in-person discussions. Our Recruiters guide each candidate through various steps, providing open communication throughout the entire process.  

RESUME SCREEN: Recruiting reviews all resumes received and determines if they meet the firm’s criteria based on our current recruiting targets and needs.

RECRUITER SCREEN: Via telephone, the Recruiter shares an overview of the firm, discusses the nature of our work, assesses the candidate's background, experience, and communication style, and answers any initial questions he/she may have regarding Sagence.

CONTENT SCREEN: A phone conversation or in-person interview is scheduled between a practice professional and the candidate to further assess the breadth and depth of the candidate’s skills and to provide the candidate with some additional insight on our work, our clients, and our culture.

IN-PERSON INTERVIEWS Each candidate is interviewed by at least three Sagence employees at this stage, including one Partner.  The interviews include a mix of Behavioral/Content and Situational type interviews:

Behavioral/Content: The purpose of the behavioral/content interview is assessment of various skill-sets as they relate to the candidate's background and prior work experience as well as to the work Sagence performs. The behavioral portion focuses on better understanding of a candidate's past reactions and behaviors as it pertains to handling challenging situations, managing teams, interacting with clients, etc. The content portion explores the depth of the candidate's industry knowledge, their project management experience, and their fundamental consulting skills.

Technical : As part of this interview, a "real life" data problem is presented to the candidate to help us assess the their technical and analytical abilities and how they work through the type of problem that typically comes up as part of the firm’s usual project work. 


Where do you see yourself in the next five years? Ten? Fifteen? Regardless of whether you desire to become a life-long management consultant or transition into a leading industry role in the data space, Sagence will help you reach your career goals. We do this in several ways:

  1. HANDS ON, CLIENT-FACING WORK: All employees, even those at the most junior levels, will have the opportunity to interact with the client, oftentimes at the executive level, from day one.
  2. CLEAR COMPETENCIES: We have defined competencies that are a measurable and observable combination of knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors critical to successful job performance. These competencies were identified based on firm priorities and provide detailed performance guidelines regarding what it will take to advance and succeed in the firm.
  3. CONSISTENT, TIMELY FEEDBACK: Employees are encouraged to regularly track development against competency areas, skills and firm contribution activities. These notes are used during monthly coach discussions for performance and career development goals, as well as in project and annual reviews to reflect on overall performance and skill development.
  4. TRAINING*: We encourage, support and provide mentoring and training in essential consulting skills, technology our clients use and require, training on our most served industries, core courses where all Sagence professionals are expected to have at least a working knowledge, and specialized skills with a data focus.

*Our courses are both internally and externally sourced. When selecting our courses, we take the following factors into consideration:

  1. We listen to our people:
    • You are on the ground working with the client daily. You help shape our training courses and provide valuable feedback for areas that need more attention. Our courses are designed to be flexible, meaning you take the class when it's convenient to and relevant for you.
  2. External market demand:
    • Training for the sake of training is a waste of time. We only train you on the skills and tools that can be utilized with your clients and that will help you grow as a professional consultant.
  3. Firm philosophy, competencies, and career model:
    • What good is it to have clear competencies if we don't provide you with the resources to help you meet expectations? Training courses are prioritized to focus on our competency and career model, so you'll know exactly how to get from point A to point B.

    - Opportunities to work on projects that are challenging, strategic, and of significant value to the client. Client satisfaction seems to be high from what I’m aware of.
    - Client work ranges from small to big projects, short or long placements, and advisory and/or implementation work. The size of this company has no proportion to their footprint on a client nor the size of the client they take on.
    - Culture is amazing – leadership is instantly welcoming as well as other colleagues. People care for your personal wellbeing and career trajectory and put in the work to prove it (active reaching out from leadership, encouragement to explore areas of interest, coworkers making the time to help when needed).
    - Due to the company size, you're able to get involved in client and internal work that may be outside of your immediate expertise if it's of interest to you.


    - Work can be demanding but the support and practical help of colleagues at all levels is readily available
    - Size of the company may not be a fit for all. Less structure than a larger consulting firm which can be an asset or a detriment depending on your perspective and approach.
