Sageworks – Why Work For Us?

Sageworks is a financial information company, headquarted in Raleigh, NC, that provides risk management, financial analysis and business valuation solutions to financial institutions, accounting firms, and private companies.

The company's mission is to make complicated financial information easier to understand for those who use our solutions and data.

Thousands of banks, credit unions, accounting firms, and private companies use our applications and data to assess the credit risk of borrowers, analyze business performance, estimate the value of a business, and understand industry trends. Through these applications, we've created the largest real-time database of private-company financial statement information in the U.S.

In addition to more traditional benefits such as medical and dental insurance, a 401(k) plan with employer match, an on-premise gym, and a casual, dog-friendly work environment, Sageworks' core principles foster a unique work experience for our employees. One of those core principles is having a flat, organizational structure where each team member is empowered (and expected) to make decisions and therefore have a large-scale, positive impact on the company. We are committed to this despite having grown into a larger corporation since our inception in 1998. A few more of our core principles have been outlined below:

The Person with the Best Idea or Information Wins

Our goal is to have as little management as possible because we think it is important for Sageworks’ employees to be more focused on results for our clients than reports for our managers. At Sageworks, the person with the best idea—not the highest-ranking title—wins. We give employees latitude for decision-making, and with that latitude, we expect them to take ownership of their projects to ensure we keep moving forward.

We Invest in Our Employees

Because of Sageworks’ size and growth rate, we give employees the opportunity to meet their financial and professional goals and do so while working with great people. Employees are given opportunities that often exceed the qualifications they have on paper. Many of our former employees have gone on to start their own businesses or become leaders in other companies.

We Value Substance Over Form

Sageworks’ employees are not judged by what we wear, the school we attended, or the professionalism in our slideshow presentations. In fact, we discourage business school-type presentations when they come up in discussion. Instead, Sageworks focuses on the results we are able to achieve because it is these results that drive and improve our clients’ experience. Our focus on substance enables Sageworks to have a casual but intense work environment where people can speak freely with one another.

Sageworks possesses a broad, expandable technology (our patented FIND system) that allows for the rapid analysis, interpretation, and aggregation of financial data. We use artificial intelligence (AI) to generate nearly all of our reports and analytics. The AI contains thousands of expert system rules, thousands of text pages, and industry benchmark data, all of which allow the technology to produce unique reports that change as company data changes. Customers receive individual and specific content based upon their financial data. For example, each time you run one of our executive reports, you will receive one of 32 trillion possible reports that our system is capable of producing. In short, all of our technologies have been developed to be "smart.”

I have been working at Sageworks full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The biggest pro is that we are selling products that work for a company that truly supports their customers! Management treats us like adults and doesn't distract their team with unnecessary internal tasks. They keep us focused on the goal.

    Cons

The only con is that we have outgrown our office space, but we are moving into a larger space in a few months.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Sageworks.

    Interview

An introductory email with internal recruiter, 2 phone interviews, 1 in person interview with 4 different employees and a mock business scenario. Everyone I spoke with was very helpful, transparent, and able to provide quick feedback. The internal HR recruiter I worked with was organized and quick to respond.
