Sandia National Laboratories – Why Work For Us?

undefinedOur goal isn’t to increase market share or shareholder profits. Rather, we create science and technology that not only make the world safer, but can improve the everyday lives of millions of people across the globe.

It’s this potential for impact that drives Sandians to make exceptional contributions, work hard, and accept difficult—and sometimes seemingly intractable—challenges.

We ensure the US nuclear stockpile remains an effective deterrent and use our technologies to monitor compliance with international nonproliferation arms control treaties to guard against nuclear war.

And we improve quality of life in dozens of ways.

Our inventions have increased access to clean water, made it safer to transport temperature-sensitive vaccines and biopharmaceuticals, and have decreased risks at airports near solar installations. Further, our collaborations with others have resulted in improved treatments for cancer and a new drug that may eliminate one deadly childhood disease, acute lymphoblastic leukemia—and potentially other cancers as well.

It’s no wonder WIRED magazine cited Sandia as one of the five best places to follow “spectacular science” and said, “The two research campuses that make up Sandia National Laboratories both take part in an extraordinary amount of industrial science and technology development.”

I have been working at Sandia National Laboratories full-time (More than 5 years)

Sandia offers a chance to use ones God given abilities for the greater good while earning a very competitive paycheck and generous work/life balance. Some Managers are better than others but the mission remains the same, keep America’s strategic military advantage or risk conflict with our emboldened adversaries.

The one main downside is the lack of a pension. This becomes evident when NNSA management uses that carrot to entice Sandians to quite and take a job with them.

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Sandia National Laboratories (Albuquerque, NM) in September 2018.

The interview process took place in the metals and chem labs. Candidates were interviewed separately, and passed between a total of 6 interviewing groups to both be questioned casually, and shown different rooms of the labs. My interview was casual. I had also prepared a few slides for a presentation of my lab experience should anyone have asked.
