Sandia National Laboratories – Why Work For Us?

undefinedOur goal isn’t to increase market share or shareholder profits. Rather, we create science and technology that not only make the world safer, but can improve the everyday lives of millions of people across the globe.

It’s this potential for impact that drives Sandians to make exceptional contributions, work hard, and accept difficult—and sometimes seemingly intractable—challenges.

We ensure the US nuclear stockpile remains an effective deterrent and use our technologies to monitor compliance with international nonproliferation arms control treaties to guard against nuclear war.

And we improve quality of life in dozens of ways.

Our inventions have increased access to clean water, made it safer to transport temperature-sensitive vaccines and biopharmaceuticals, and have decreased risks at airports near solar installations. Further, our collaborations with others have resulted in improved treatments for cancer and a new drug that may eliminate one deadly childhood disease, acute lymphoblastic leukemia—and potentially other cancers as well.

It’s no wonder WIRED magazine cited Sandia as one of the five best places to follow “spectacular science” and said, “The two research campuses that make up Sandia National Laboratories both take part in an extraordinary amount of industrial science and technology development.”

I have been working at Sandia National Laboratories full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Sandia's mission drives employees (not money). Healthy workplace culture, good benefits, diverse and talented workforce. Flexible work schedule options (e.g., 9/80) are very popular in Livermore.

    Cons

Sandia can be bureaucratic and slow-moving, but it's probably unavoidable given it's history and role as an FFRDC.

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Sandia National Laboratories (Los Angeles, CA) in October 2017.

    Interview

I interviewed on campus after being invited back from a career fair. The interview was very casual; it lasted just under an hour and was mostly a conversation between the recruiter and I about my projects and their work function. No technical questions were asked.
