I have been working at Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department (More than a year)
Lots of room for advancement if you plan on staying with the department for your whole career. Young police force with lots of various backgrounds making up the ranks. Great initial training and paid through the academy.
Politics and if you're only going to be there for a couple years there's not very much room for advancement or specialized training right off the bat unless you are prior military. Upper management has all the same problems as any large police department, but there are good supervisors out there.
Advice to Management
Focus more on what your officers need and want opposed to trying to advance your own career above all others. Patrol officers and those below the Corporal level are the ones who are working the streets and have an impact on the public.
