For the past 18 years, Schellman has consistently changed the landscape of compliance.  While we’re extremely proud of our successful history, we’re not resting on it.  2020 is another year of moving forward:  new service offerings, increased in-house certifications, additional benefits in our already amazing package, expanded community service initiatives, just to name a few.

The strength of Schellman comes from the experience of our professionals. To date, our team members have collectively completed over 10,000 projects, including more than 9,000 SOC examinations and hundreds of other compliance assessments and certifications.

Our professionals average nearly ten years of professional services experience per individual, which is very uncommon in this industry. These team members are almost exclusively the alumni of Big 4 global accounting firms and tier one technology firms. The vast majority of our personnel held supervisory positions immediately prior to joining our company.

We place significant value in the demonstrated expertise of our professionals. As a result, every project team is comprised of experts in the area of accounting, auditing, information security and controls, and business process auditing. This expertise is demonstrated by our team members’ achievement of combinations of the following certifications:

  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
  • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)

By focusing on a specific set of interrelated services, our professionals provide relevant assurance and compliance services on a constant basis. It is common for any single member of our project team to have more individual project experience than entire teams of professionals proposed by our competitors. With an average experience level that exceeds 100 previously completed projects per individual, our personnel are among the most experienced in the industry.

At Schellman, we recognize that our people care about each other and their communities. We saw the opportunity to create a stronger bond between our personnel and the communities in which they live and work.  As such, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) program at Schellman was born. CSR is about demonstrating leadership through deliberate actions that support a more sustainable future for the marketplace, our people, the community and the environment.  The CSR program at Schellman is referred to as ‘SchellmanCARES’. The vision for the name was to encompass all that we were looking to accomplish with our program.  The ‘CARES’ portion is an acronym that speaks to each of the main pillars of our mission:

Advocacy – at Schellman we encourage our colleagues to support social causes that matter to them and their communities.

    Pros

    Aside from the ridiculously generous benefits already discussed here, there are a number of key factors that make Schellman a company I never want to leave. Schellman’s hiring process is top-notch and prospective candidates are well vetted. From the top down, my coworkers are among the best in their field and more than willing to do their part. There is a shared sense that we are all significant stakeholders in this venture. I have yet to see the red tape, bureaucracy, and drama that paralyzes many of our competitors. Our principals, president, and CEO exemplify transparency and make themselves available to employees of all levels. At Schellman, you truly have the opportunity to grow the practice with our own ideas.

    Working for Schellman is a career-making move. As an employee, you are given considerable resources to expand your skillset. Managers take time each month to understand your goals and provide guidance to help you achieve them. Schellman values its employees and is willing to invest in your development. There is also a level of autonomy and trust that I have not felt elsewhere.

    I cannot say enough good things about this organization to give it justice. Schellman feels like the best kept secret in this industry and I feel fortunate to work here.

    Cons

    There are times when clients are not ready for an engagement and, truthfully, our employees pay the price. The typical work/life balance is extremely fair, however, workloads can quickly double due to unprepared clients. This is an issue that has been communicated to top-level management and I hope a solution can be found.

    Advice to Management

    What you've built is nothing short of amazing. As the company grows, continue to invest your employees as you have since the beginning.
