I worked at Selmet as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

As an engineering intern I was able to work on high-impact projects spanning the range from basic science to operations. I was given wide latitude, and felt like I made a big impact.

    Cons

Sometimes there is a lack of vision, and it is hard to attract top talent in Albany, OR.

    Advice to Management

Stop worrying about what other titanium foundries are doing and start outclassing them. Leverage the unique technologies at Selmet to build bridges into new areas and technologies. Use your flexibility as a medium sized business to explore new methods and technologies, master and patent them. Profit.

    Chemical Process Engineering Interview

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Selmet (Corvallis, OR).

    Interview

I was interviewed through the MECOP program, which is different than a normal interview. In the end what was the most attractive was my willingness to get my hands dirty and overcome the hesitation that some college grads have towards hazardous chemical processes. They are looking for people with a willingness to get involved more than a high level of engineering skill.
