I worked at Seminole County Government full-time (More than 3 years)
Cost of living in the area relatively affordable
Some people genuinely want you to succeed and will help you climb the ladder
Opportunities for internal promotion depending on department
Low employee moral (many people are just waiting to retire)
Cut throat environment
"Good ol' boy" system
You have to do the work of 2-3 people without receiving proper compensation
Not enough work-life balance. Management is not fond of employees taking time off.
Advice to Management
Keep up with current business trends and try to create a more progressive environment. I know this is a government agency, but change is a good thing and will boost employee morale.
I applied online. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Seminole County Government (Sanford, FL).
Laid back and informal. Was interviewed by 3 managers (1 became my direct supervisor). Typical interview questions but some were skill specific. Was asked to provide examples. Manager called me 3 weeks later to offer position.
