Seventh Generation – Why Work For Us?

About Seventh Generation

We made a promise the moment we named our brand. It’s a promise that every decision, every product, will be made with careful consideration of our impact on the wellbeing of the next seven generations. It’s our belief that the best way to live is with our collective future in mind. Because you can’t live a healthy life on a sick planet.

For the past 30 years, we've been a company with strong beliefs about the rights of people and planet. We're a company that believes you have a right to know that the products you buy are safe for you, your family, and our environment. We believe that a company's values are as important as the products it makes. We know that plant-based products can provide exceptional efficacy, and that products designed from renewable plant-based ingredients are better for the planet than products made from petroluem. We believe that waste, is well... a waste. It's why we use recycled materials to design our packaging, and why we design our packing to be recycled. We have a lot of beliefs, but the biggest one is that we have a responsibility to this generation and the next seven. What do you believe? We invite you in our journey to nurture the health of the next seven generations.

Our mission is to insprire a consumer revolution that nurtures the health of the next seven generations.

As a pioneer in corporate responsibility, we consider our impact in everything we do—from product development through production, purchase, use, and disposal.  We are always evaluating how to reduce our environmental impact, increase performance and safety, and create a more sustainable supply chain. We believe it is our responsibility to set a course for a more mindful way of doing business, and that every day very day is a new opportunity to care for the next seven generations.

One of the best ways we can all do that is by protecting and caring for the environment and natural resources all around us. Seventh Generation has put this belief into action with our #ComeClean campaign that rallied around passing the California Cleaning Product Right to Know Act (SB 258), the federal Cleaning Product Right to Know Act (H.R.2728), and the federal Menstrual Products Right to Know Act of 2017 (H.R.2416) which all center on ingredient disclosure right on the label of cleaning, homecare, and femcare products that we welcome into our homes each day.

Overall, our Corporate Consciousness Reports deliver sustainability performance reviews and examine the progress we’ve made toward our ambitious 2020 Roadmap goals, working to Nurture Nature, Enhance Health, Transform Commerce, and Build Community. A large portion of this is knowing that "We’re still making meaningful progress despite the fact that each year progress gets harder to make.  And that’s really our message; every person and each business can live sustainably. You just have to take that first step and then keep on walking.” - Corporate Consciousness Manager Ashley Orgain

We Believe

That you have a right to know that the products you buy are safe for you, your family, and our environment. That a company's values are as important as the products it makes. That plant-based products can provide exceptional efficacy. That products designed from renewable plant-based ingredients are better for the planet than products made from petroleum. That you have a right to know what's inside the bottle you buy. Always. That waste, is well... a waste. It's why we use recycled materials to design our packaging, and why we design our packaging to be recycled. That everyone can make a difference in the planet for the next seven generations.

Care Wholeheartedly - Collaborate Deliberately - Nurture Nature - Innovate Disruptively - Be a Trusted Brand

Our mission and values are at the heart of our culture.

We know that health, wellness, and family are priorities to our employees, which is why we create a healthy and vibrant workplace community where respect, a balanced lifestyle, and honest, open communication are promoted. We welcome our community members, their families, and dogs in our multi-tiered office. We foster a relaxed and sustainable atmosphere that allows employees to work how they want- whether that's sitting or standing at their desk, out on the patio, or in one of the many quiet spots in our Gold-Level LEED-certified workplace.

We're committed to lowering out impact and encourage employees to bring lunch from home to heat up in our full kitchen area, or go out to one of the many local eateries around Burlington as long as they compost and recycle their waste appropriately. We encourage employees to make use of the provided health club membership on their lunch breaks or to simply go for a walk at a point throughout the day, even if that means a quick game of corn hole.

We offer comprehensive health insurance coverage, education and training, a variety of flexible work arrangements including the option to work from home, a local health club membership, a robust wellness program supporting employees and their families, and meaningful incentives to promote reducing each person’s carbon footprint in the office and their home.

Our community reminds us what we're here for. All of us at Seventh Generation dedicate our time to volunteering and taking action on initiatives that matter most.

While the largest initiative to date is our #ComeClean campaign, Seventh Generation fosters relationships with many groups to promote sustainability, transform commerce, nurture nature, and build communities. Our employees dedicate at least 1% of their time each year to volunteering, ranging from building cabins at Camp Takumta to updating community gardens in the Bronx to providing fruits and vegetables to lower income families. One of the most impactful partnerships is with the Sustainability Academy in Burlington, VT, to help educate the next generation of sustainability leaders.

Our individual employees are only the start of our work in the community, as the Seventh Generation Foundation provides support to U.S.-based organizations working to bring about positive change and sustainable solutions. The foundation's mission is to care today for seven generation’s of tomorrows by stewarding social and environmental progress in the communities we live, work and do business through education, environmental conservation, research and advocacy, with a focus on enhancing the health of homes and schools.

Join us at Seventh Generation

Seventh Generation is committed to being the best business possible. We're a certified B-Corporation, which means that we have to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. We're better for our employees, our community, and the environment.

We're continuing to grow and become more distinguished in the green-product industry by focusing on developing our employees first. Our connection to wellbeing and sustainability is what makes us unique, not to mention our individual employees and the ability to make a change in the world simply by coming to work every day. Each of our dedicated community members represents an additional reason to join us, especially as we all truly embody the philosophy that anything is possible- that even if we don’t succeed at first, good things always happen when we try. Of course, watching the sun set from our rooftop deck overlooking Lake Champlain and bringing your pup to work every day are an added bonus.

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Seventh Generation (Burlington, VT) in May 2018.

    Interview

I applied to Seventh Gen in mid May of 2018. My first phone call interview was with corporate(Unilever) at the end of the month. I then had a phone interview with a hiring manager at Seventh Gen early June with a follow up in-person interview in mid June. The in-person interview was back-to-back half hour interviews with 5 different interviewers in varying positions. I received a phone call four days later notifying me that I was offered the position. The entire process took just over one month, everyone I interviewed with both over the phone and in person was very friendly.
