Since our founding in 1971, Shane Co. has established itself as one of the country's premier independent jewelers. However, the Shane family tradition of excelling in the diamond and jewelry industry began long before that. 

My grandfather, Charles Shane, purchased his first jewelry store in Cleveland, Ohio in 1929. It was the year of the stock market crash and the beginning of the Great Depression. As difficult as business was in general, the jewelry business was nearly impossible. But his persistence and commitment to quality, value and customer service persevered through the hardest economic times in American history. 

My dad, Richard Shane, joined the family enterprise following his World War II military service. Over the years, he piloted a single store into one of the largest jewelry chains in the Midwest. 

In 1971, I decided to start my own jewelry business. I incorporated my father's and grandfather's commitment to quality, value and customer service, in addition to offering customers a unique educational opportunity. My vision was to make sure that all of our customers had enough knowledge about their jewelry options to make truly informed purchasing decisions.

    I have been working at Shane Co. full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    ShaneCo feels like home, it is the first company that I have ever worked for that I legitimately know everyones name in the store coworkers and management included. Everyone in the store all seems to fully embrace the culture we have here and I actually enjoy coming to work. I would say the position I am in would be the "Bottom of the totem pole" and I still consider this the best job and best company I have ever worked for.

    Cons

    No matter how much I do like working here there are cons with any job really. The nature of this buisnes can sometimes have you deal with some unrealistic expectations from customers and with our company we literally do so much for the customer that sometimes fatigue can set in. My primary Con working here would be that everyone works on saturday and sunday and this is very taxing on having a social life. Shaneco does their best to compensate. I have been here 6 months and have gone on 3 4 day vacations already... But its still not enough to affect my dislike of working on the weekends.

    Advice to Management

    As a management team you are all outstanding. I Love my management team and have no complaints. My advice to the management team would be to find some additional ways to raise quality of life for those on the customer service end. Customer service is a very mentally taxing position. The top salesperson gets a 1 week paid dream vacation at the end of the year and there is a competitive drive to push to be the top for the year. I cant say that I even know what a top CSA would get if anything. Its nice to have a goal or a reward to push for and compete with your coworkers to get. I feel the CSA's dont have something like that.

    Our interview was amazing. I came in nervous about the aura of the workplace and left feeling right at home. After an interview a little over an hour, I felt as if I had a working knowledge of what would be expected of me should I get the job, as well as how I would go about my training upon my first day.
