Recruiting and Human Resources Assistant Interview
Anonymous Employee in San Francisco, CANo OfferNegative ExperienceAverage InterviewApplicationI applied online. The process took 6 days. I interviewed at Shea Labagh Dobberstein (San Francisco, CA) in May 2019
Interview
A Principal with the firm emailed me to gather a few more details after my online application. He then asked to set up a phone screen. It was relative quick, and he did not seem to have many questions prepared ahead of time. It was evident as the interview went on that he didn't know what HR or recruiting questions to ask to figure out my experience. He asked some really weird questions, and usually followed up any question about my work experience with, "And did you enjoy it?" or "How did you like it?" He didn't ask me any questions about demonstrable HR or Recruiting experience even though I have worked as a Recruiter in the past. They were very basic questions, and he clearly had only skimmed my resume. He also mentioned many times during the interview that the exact duties of the role hadn't been nailed down- they were still trying to figure out if the role even had any HR duties even though it was in the advertised title.
It also seemed to rub him the wrong way that I wanted to know if the role was hourly or exempt- and he was reluctant to give me information about the benefits package or the salary range- even though this is required by CA law for employers to provide a salary range upon request as of Jan 2018.
Overall very disappointing interview- I had high hopes based on the previous reviews on Glassdoor. I followed up after the interview via email to thank him for the conversation. He responded that I was no longer under consideration, and I thanked him again and asked for feedback from the phone screen and details as to why they would not be moving forward with my application. He never responded. I think that's indicative of the attitude at this firm overall. I was excited to initially hear back from this company, but ended up very disappointed.InterviewQ: Did you have a job in college and did you enjoy it?
