I have been working at Signet Jewelers full-time (More than 3 years)
The company provides a reasonable benefits package. Workload is challenging but not unmanageable. No hours cut during the slow season. Consistent 40 hrs per week with some overtime.
Pay scale is not enough to raise a family on. You can make more money working entry level at Costco. Inconsistent management from location to location. Retail hours are difficult to schedule family time around. Frequently requested to work on your day of if you attempt to use allotted paid time off.
Advice to Management
Find a way to improve hourly wages to retain talented bench jewelers. You aren't coming anywhere near being able to support a family in this company until attaining an A level jeweler status. Implement consistency of application of company policies regarding jewelry. Adhering to sizing limitations for designer brands is a must for the life of the piece of jewelry. Pay attention to the commute each of your jewelers must undertake in a given market. Frequently jewelers are working at locations much further from their homes than necessary. Iny case I have an hour each way to drive even though thete are three locations nearer to me and jewelers working in those locations living nearer to the store I currently work in. This practice also extends to the store side of the staff. This practice lowers moral and directly affects the individual employee's overall take home pay. Training and advancement should be closely monitored and consistent company wide.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Signet Jewelers (Irving, TX) in January 2012.
4 Interviews all but one over the phone. I worked with a recruiter so first interview was with them. There was a long time in between interviews. The first 3 interviews and final interview was a phone interview.
