Silverchair is changing the way that scientists, doctors, and researchers discover and use expert information. Scholarly and professional publishers use the Silverchair Platform to deliver distinctive online sites and products from their unique content. Silverchair includes comprehensive product development and migration services, online management tools, and ongoing support to ensure publishers achieve their product vision.
Silverchair has consistently pushed the boundaries in applying a semantic layer to expert content databases, and we have designed our platform to exploit enriched data to create advances in discoverability, contextual linking, and targeted content delivery for consumers of expert content. While some call the Semantic Web “Web 3.0”, we’ve been hard at work applying these concepts to web applications for more than 15 years.

Silverchair’s location on the Downtown pedestrian mall gives us a front-row seat to all that Charlottesville has to offer. With the Free Speech Wall on one end and an Escape Room on the other, with incredible food and a lively arts scene, this is a town that not only invites but nurtures variety, creativity, and balance. What better place to locate a company that thrives on those qualities.
Getting tired on a Friday afternoon? Enjoy a cup of Snowing in Space cold-brew nitro coffee on tap in the kitchen!
Feeling peckish? Snacks abound, and the downtown mall offers no shortage of walkable fooderies.

Weekend plans looking sparse? Silverchairians enjoy getting together outside of work either informally for happy hours and team outings, or for company-sponsored functions like picnics at King Family polo, roller skating at Carver Rec Center, or our company picnic.
Silverchair gets its name from the fourth book in the Chronicles of Narnia series, noted for its themes of persistence and transformation. The inspiration still weaves its way through the company, both in team names (e.g. Narnia) and building locations (e.g. Cair Paravel, Wood Between the Worlds, & Spare Oom).
The Australian rock band came later, but it occasionally leads to confusion (including an application for an Editorial Assistant position from someone who listed as one of his qualifications that he had been an office manager for Soundgarden—he didn’t get the job).

"In addition to being located in a great area of Charlottesville, one of the best things about working at Silverchair is definitely the people. I have found lifetime friends and mentors through this company."
I have been working at Silverchair full-time (More than a year)
Great company culture, incredibly smart and friendly people. They treat their employees with respect and consideration. One of the best places I've worked from a company culture standpoint
Constantly changing, this can be a good thing, but sometimes feels a bit chaotic. Not a great environment for those looking for a job with a familiar routine day in and day out.
Advice to Management
Keep the emphasis on company culture and push back on the urge to become more corporate.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Silverchair (Charlottesville, VA) in December 2017.
I originally applied for Associate SQA. I submitted my application online. I had an inside contact so I immediately passed the HR phone screen and was told I'd be contacted by the hiring manager. The hiring manager then had a phone interview with me, and told me at the end of the call he wanted to have me come in and interview with ~6-8 team members (~3hours). Once that was done, around four days later, I was contact by the recruiter and told I was being considered for a different position and she called me along with the hiring manager for the new position (Associate Business Analyst). I was asked to come in for one last in-person interview, which they kindly kept short because they knew I couldn't be away for very long. A few business days later, I was sent an offer letter. I felt as though everything was expedited since this was right before Christmas/New Year's and I think (or at the very least hope) they were enthusiastic about me as a candidate.
