Digitalization is spreading to more and more areas of the healthcare industry, and revenue expectations are high. However, our latest Digital Health Trend Study published shows that digital transformation is progressing slowly, and firms are often unsure which direction to move in. Fifty-nine percent of pharma, medtech, and consumer healthcare companies still lack a fully defined digital strategy. It is also remarkable that such a high number of approaches exist for implementing company-wide digital strategies. Chosen investment areas and methods to define strategies are the aspects that vary most.
Study: Black Friday and Cyber Monday Each Present Distinct Opportunities for Both Consumers and Retailers
A recent study conducted by Simon-Kucher & Partners revealed that there is still a dichotomy in how consumers approach Black Friday vs. Cyber Monday. Sixty percent of Black Friday shoppers browse through offerings in the hopes that they find the best deals, whatever they may be. Alternatively, 50 percent of Cyber Monday shoppers seem more intent on checking predetermined items off their lists, saying they are focused on purchasing specific products.

Over the past 30 years, we’ve worked in all major industries for clients from A- to… well, -Z. If a specific industry really sets your heart racing, chances are, we’re working in it. You might be wondering- all of this from a pricing consultancy?? While we do trace our roots to pricing and are proud to be the leading consultancy in this field in the world we’ve since expanded our reach into other areas, like marketing, sales, and strategy within a variety of industries. We’re very committed to working within our areas of expertise, but our background gives us a solid foundation for a variety of project work. Today, the majority of our projects go way beyond pricing or do not involve pricing at all.
Ravi, a consultant in Boston, was thrilled to find himself on a pricing project that saw a highly anticipated pharmaceutical product introduced into a market with a direct competitor launching simultaneously. Ravi and his team used quantitative and qualitative analysis and even game theory to predict market reactions and responses to the product. The results of the project fed into the client's strategic planning and business forecasting, and Simon-Kucher & Partners helped the company determine a pricing strategy each step of the way until the product launch. Said Ravi, “It’s exciting to be an integral part of the development and launch of cutting edge products and technologies.” Jon, a consultant with an MBA and a PhD in pathology, likes the fact that he’s able to be involved in projects related to his thesis topic through his involvement in pharmaceutical projects. Annette, a senior director in Zurich who joined Simon-Kucher & Partners in 2002, has worked on a variety of projects, from pricing strategy for e-books to setting the prices for tires for earth moving equipment: “The broad spectrum of projects keeps the job interesting, even after all these years”, she says, “And the people I work with are great- motivated, friendly and smart”.

At Simon-Kucher, you will learn much from your work with clients and colleagues because education is important to us, and we try to ensure that our consultants can grow intellectually and professionally in their work at Simon-Kucher & Partners. Our employees around the world have published numerous books and articles for example on pricing.
Employees starting with Simon-Kucher & Partners attend a week-long Strategic Training for Employee Professional Success (STEPS) for new hires. During the onboarding training week, you'll learn more about our various divisions, vision and values, pricing basics, and project tools. You will get together with other new associates from offices all around the world for presentations, case studies and team events that will build the foundation for your work. STEPS guides you through a full project, where every day is one project phase. Our associates forge lifelong friendships through STEPS, learning together and going out after the day’s work ends.
And our education is ongoing! Along with learning by doing, the Simon-Kucher Academy as a comprehensive training program will help you develop and expand your individual skills over time. Our training sessions are designed specifically for us. And the information that you learn is always relevant. Our broad training program is constantly growing, as we continuously add new seminars, training material and webinars. Our Academy covers a full range of topics - analytical and methodical abilities, soft skills such as leadership and project management, and seminars on our own consulting areas.
Unlike many consulting firms, we do not have an “up-or-out” principle. Instead, our promotion system is based on a holistic 360-degree evaluation that we conduct twice a year. That means your individual career advancement depends on your performance and your evaluations from peers, supervisors and team members. If your performance is outstanding, you may be able to move up and take over responsibilities faster than you could at other consultancies.
Our Partners evaluate and provide feedback to each associate twice a year. These sessions are important for your growth and ours. Colleagues will evaluate you, and you will also assess your own performance and evaluate your colleagues. Together with your Partner, you will conduct a development talk to define the next steps that will help you grow faster, use your potential and move up in the ranks.

Simon-Kucher & Partners is committed to double-digit growth. And we mean it. 2018 was another record year for us as revenue grew by 23%, climbing to 360 million US dollars (309 million euros). The forecast for 2019 is equally optimistic, with a revenue target of 400 million US dollars (350 million euros). And fortunately, as we grow, so do you. Mike, the consultant who counts his co-workers as friends inside and outside of the office, joined the company as an entry level consultant (C1) and has since been promoted three times in almost as many years. In that time, his responsibilities have increased significantly: where he was once guided through analyses by project managers, he now manages work streams, gives client presentations, and represents the firm at industry conventions.

Many who are interested in pursuing a career in consulting are attracted by the potential opportunity to work internationally. Given our global presence with 38 offices in 25 countries and clients in over 80 countries, we’ve got you covered. When we can (and if you’re up for it), we’ll give you the chance to experience different cultures.
Over half of our projects are international and the majority of our project teams consists of colleagues from around the world. So, even when sitting at their desk our associates may find themselves in a phone conference with clients and Simon-Kucher colleagues from several countries. Or they might meet up with an international client team at a workshop jointly held with other Simon-Kucher team members.
Based on staffing needs and required expertise, our offices exchange consultants on a by-project basis, often allowing consultants to work on assignments in other countries.
Given our commitment to globalization, we welcome and support consultants who wish to experience working in a Simon-Kucher office abroad for a longer period of time. With our international rotation program, associates may have the opportunity to rotate to another office for a period of three to six months. Longer-term transfers are also possible and we currently have several dozen expatriates who have moved to another country for a year or longer.
The final step in our application process is a set of interviews at a Simon-Kucher office. There will be “classic” interview questions focusing on your previous experience and your motivation for applying to Simon-Kucher. Most interviews will also include a business case, a brainteaser and/or an estimation question. All of these may involve some basic calculations. Of course, you will have an opportunity to ask questions yourself.
To better assist you in preparing for your interview, we recommend you review our case interview workshop guide.
At Simon-Kucher & Partners, employees are given lots of project responsibility—and quickly! We like to let our employees hit the ground running and we love when new hires take proactive roles on their projects. Sure, the learning curve is quick, but we’re eager to help you adjust. At many firms, it takes several years before consultants are given managerial responsibilities on projects. Increased responsibility from the get-go is just one of the benefits to working at a growing firm like Simon-Kucher & Partners.
If we were kids, we wouldn’t ask you over to play and then tell you that all of the good toys were off limits. And as adults, we don’t believe in that approach either. We want you to feel invested in your work here, and diving right in helps you quickly acclimate to your clients and your projects. Since we’re a growing firm, you’ll be an integral part of small project teams, providing you with direct access to partners and knowledge of all parts of a project; you’ll learn all project components, methods, and tools, instead of performing the same set of tasks from project to project.
Consultants have a well-deserved reputation for being hard workers. In their work, they often face intellectual challenges, long hours and time away from friends and family. As an associate, we know that you need time away from the office to relax and recharge. You’re more likely be satisfied in your job when you enjoy your work – and when you lead a happy, fulfilling life outside of the office.
At Simon-Kucher & Partners, we ask our partners to try to avoid excessive weekend and late night work where possible. Beyond that, we support our associates’ efforts in finding and maintaining a balance between work and home life in several ways:

Advice to Management
- Nice to have: Improve HR and processes
I applied through college or university. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Simon-Kucher & Partners (Boston, MA) in March 2019.
Applied through online campus recruiting. Completed two phone screenings with higher level consultants before being invited back for a final round super day. Everyone seemed really nice and supportive and was surprised when I was not given an offer.
