  • "I wanted to share with you the wonderful opportunity Slack has given me to give back to my community. Five and a half years ago I was forced to flee my home country because of homophobia. When I arrived in the U.S. I hid, working in fast food and fearing a return to my country. Then I won the protection of asylum, the right to stay here thanks to Oasis Legal Services. I could finally embrace my life and return to the work I love, designing software. I found a community of friends, and eventually I found Slack which is extremely welcoming of the LGBTQ+ community." — Gerson Garcia Pineda, Sr. Software Engineer, Test Automation, he/him

  • "My colleagues are some of the most caring, curious and hard working people I've ever met. There's a constant pursuit to be better humans -- for each other, for ourselves, and for our community. We can all be exactly who we are and uniqueness is encouraged." — Meaghan Riley, Customer Experience Agent, she/her

Finding Solutions for Hard Problems

Every day, we venture into unknown territory. Every incremental improvement and every second of downtime has the potential to impact work productivity around the globe. We’re scaling a critical business tool used by millions of people every day. So whether your expertise is in mobile development, web applications, data engineering, site reliability — or in any of the many other areas vital to building a great product— we need your help to tackle the challenges ahead.

Where Work Happens

Slack is on a mission to make people’s working lives simpler, more pleasant, and more productive. We bring all the pieces of work together for more than 12 million daily active users, more than half of whom hail from outside North America. Reliability, performance, quality, and ensuring a delightful user experience are complex problems and we’re looking for people that are ready to take them on.

We’re All In This Together

Slack is a place where you get the encouragement, and the opportunities, to constantly learn and grow, both personally and professionally. We strive to be a place where people from diverse backgrounds can share equally diverse opinions; where everyone feels able — obligated, even — to make things better.

Slack's Internship Program

An internship is a time for exploration, a time to learn, grow, and accomplish great things. At Slack we foster interns’ curiosity, celebrate their creativity, and help them to do their best work. We want to build an inclusive community of future leaders and innovators by giving them the tools they need to make meaningful contributions at Slack, and beyond.

Slack offers technical and non-technical positions in 12- to 16-week sessions during the summer and fall for students in undergraduate, master’s, MBA, and Ph.D. programs. We accept applications via our careers page for our fall and summer internship programs. If you would like to apply, please check our career page for current openings.

Strong Mentorship

Each intern is paired with a mentor to help them flourish and see the real-life impact of their contributions. Mentors are someone students can feel comfortable talking to about everything from challenges to big wins. Our mentors are dedicated to helping interns feel empowered to pursue their potential, and nurturing their growth as people and as professionals.

Lasting Impact

At Slack, you’ll often hear, “Do the best work of your life”. We live this core value at Slack every day (including interns). That’s why we push interns to tackle a variety of projects that will help move their career forward. Slack interns take pride in seeing the real-world impact of their work as it’s used by millions of people every day.

Diverse Partnerships

Slack actively looks for interns from a diversity of backgrounds and experiences. To reach them, we partner with organizations like Code2040 to reach Black and Latinx students, and with YearUp, which provides internship access to young adults of different socioeconomic backgrounds. Slack a place is where all interns can feel supported and focus on being inspired to do their best work.

Unique Events and Activities

We coach interns on how to improve existing skillsets, but also encourage them to develop new ones. We’ve built a “work hard, play often” approach into the events and programs offered: each class in every location gets a unique experience. Interns volunteer at local charities, get lunch with executive leaders, and learn new skills at monthly workshops hosted by Slack employee clubs and affinity groups. They can take advantage of “Shadow Week” - time spent immersed in the daily life of a team they’re interested in learning about - and cap off their Slack experience by helping put on a company-wide Project Presentation Fair where they can show off a sample of their work.

Sales at Slack

Sales is the fastest growing department at Slack and we are hiring across Sales, Customer Success and Services in our 9 global offices. For a company that’s been around for under five years, we already have an impressive roster of clients including IBM, Capital One, Target, Liberty Mutual, 21st Century Fox, and U.S. Department of State. We look for top performers who are comfortable in a high growth, collaborative environment and want to see the impact of their work!

Slack Growth

Slack is the fastest-growing business application in history, a collaboration hub that brings the right people together with the right conversations, information, and tools they use at work. There are over 12 million Daily Active Users across the more than 500,000 organizations that use Slack. We have more than 3 million paid users, and 65% of the companies in the Fortune 100 are paid Slack customers. More than 100,000 paid teams and more than half of Slack’s users are outside of the U.S.!

Diversity, Engagement, and Belonging

Our Vision

Our vision at Slack is a world in which organizational agility is easy to achieve, regardless of size. Slack is a tool for everyone—and inclusivity should be reflected in the people who imagine and build the product itself. Since the company’s beginnings five years ago, we’ve prioritized diversity, engagement and belonging in our hiring, practices and workplace culture. We are a company of global citizens that can only grow together when everyone feels safe, heard, and sees their path to growth.

Employee Resource Groups

Employee Resource Groups help drive belonging among our employees by supporting, promoting, and celebrating groups of employees who have come together based on shared characteristics or life experiences. ERGs aim to help people find a sense of community and support Slack overall. Each ERG has both an executive sponsor and a designated employee who leads and supports the community globally.

I have been working at Slack full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - exciting business opportunity with tons of upside still ahead
    - very smart people to work with and learn from
    - good diversity of backgrounds and experience
    - no jerks, lots of respect and empathy for co-workers
    - opportunity to create and build something amazing - everyone has a hand in creating the business and helping determine its future
    - worklife balance is real here for everyone, including parents

    Cons

    Few to mention here...
    - too open? Sometimes conversations about small topics will take center stage in the internal news cycle which can be a distraction from the work at hand.
    - Life is great here and wouldn't trade it but it feels like we may be a bit over-entitled at times. It's not outrageous, but can be a little silly at times.

    Advice to Management

Keep pushing more great products. Focus on driving the enterprise side of the business. Continue to hire deep experience in key leadership roles (and elsewhere) to guide the team.

    Customer Success Manager Interview

Anonymous Employee in New York, NY
    Accepted Offer
    Positive Experience
    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Slack (New York, NY) in March 2018.

    Interview

The process began with a recruiter screen, then moved onto a Manager 1:1 phone screen. After that, I conducted a chronological interview and the final round was a presentation. Slack's interview process is thorough and you should be prepared to talk about your work experience in great detail. I was very impressed with the recruiting process; they were quick to provide feedback and move me on to the next stage. The recruiter Mike was part recruiter/part guide, letting me know how I could improve through each round.
