I worked at Sleep Train Mattress Centers full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The sales training is unbelievable. I had already sold in different areas for most of my life and was quite successful. ST took that ability and made it leagues better. I had all the tools I needed to work at a top store, because they gave it all to me in training. However, you must decide you are going to be better than everyone else, and do the work. There is plenty of room for advancement if you want it. Managers get free insurance. When i was there, it truly was a big company that felt like a small company. The owner would come out from Sac and he learned all of our names, he is amazing. The company also provides many events/opportunities to reward those who worked hard and did well.

    Cons

You'll read this a few times, but it happens every where when you work in a retail store. You will work weekends. Of 7 days, you get 2 days off like normally, just not the weekends. You might work extra hours on holidays, but the traffic is good and it is worth it monetarily. You can spend a lot of time by yourself in a store, but I always made sure I brought something that I wanted to study, books to read and learn from, etc. I didn't waste those hours I worked by myself. I had friends who even made jewelry in the back room, just do something you like.

    Advice to Management

Don't lose who you've always been, the culture of ST, to diminish because of being purchased by Mattress Firm.
