I have been working at SmartBear full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Shocked to see some the negative reviews and I feel the need to tell the other side of the story. Walking around the floor in Somerville, you'd never know some people feel this way. We have great facilities and company benefits that are competitive even in the start-up tech space. Beautiful office in Assembly, tons of company swag, catered lunches, happy hours, company events, etc. While the perks are great, the opportunity to make a real impact and to grow your career are the reasons why I love working at SmartBear. I feel 100% empowered to share my ideas, try new things, and take on new challenges. I also feel that my manager has my back and genuinely cares about my success and the success of my team. I have also found tremendous support from the executive team when I need assistance or just want to talk through an idea. Frankly I've never worked at a company with more down-to-earth, smart people who really care about what they do and want to see the company succeed. I can see a long career here for myself and for the people on my team.

    Cons

Turnover is something every agile tech company struggles with, especially in sales. Unfortunately this has caused some uncertainty from the greener employees who may not be used to it. Boston is a competitive market and there are reasons why other tech companies want our talent. There has been a bit of turnover recently but the reasons behind it overall are positive: taking on new opportunities, leading sales organizations, exploring new lines of business, etc. I have worked at companies that were a sinking ship, and this is not one of them. I think we could make compensation more competitive since we often lose people due to compensation. No matter how great everything else is, people will always chase money.

    Advice to Management

We are absolutely on the right track. The new CRO is an incredible talent and I believe that we are going to be twice and great as we are in the next year. I am certain that the negative reviews were written by non-performers who will do what it takes to blame the company for their failures.
