I've been wondering about the real purpose of platforms like Glassdoor and Blind. It often feels like they're just outlets for us to vent our frustrations, especially in startups where feedback doesn't always lead to improvement and learning. And then there's the push for employees to leave overly positive, sometimes even fake, feedback on Glassdoor. What's the deal with that? Are these platforms actually making a difference, or are they just for show?

Why does HR seem more focused on shielding executives rather than tackling bias and handling complaints? It's concerning to see capable employees dismissed on an executive's whim, often due to personal biases. Also, the practice of hiring mainly from one company creates an exclusive circle, potentially affecting overall performance. HR needs to scrutinize and address these issues more effectively.

PhD in mechanical engineering here, and struggling to get a job. I would appreciate your feedback. I have 3 years of postdoc experience in bioengineering, 6 years of PhD work in a mechanical engineering lab, and 3 years in a chemical engineering lab. My GPA is 4/4 for PhD, 3.9/4 for masters, and 3.6/4 for bachelor, published 17 papers (11 first-author), 3 times invited speaker, and recipient of multiple research, fellowship, and mentorship awards.
