Smile Brands Group Inc. is the largest provider of support services to general and multi-specialty dental groups in the United States based on number of dental offices. We provide comprehensive business support services, non-clinical personnel, facilities and equipment through our exclusive long term agreements with affiliated dental groups. Our services support more than 1,300 dentists and hygienists practicing in nearly 350 offices nationally.
Our Business Model
Our consumer-driven retail model is guided by the principle: “Smiles for Everyone”. This model attracts patients to affiliated dental groups by combining strong, recognizable brands, highly visible retail locations and extended office hours with affordable and comprehensive dental care. Utilizing our model, dentists spend more time caring for their patients and less time on the administrative, marketing and financial aspects of the dental practice, while benefiting from a lower cost structure. The lower cost structure provides affiliated dental groups greater flexibility to price their dental services competitively within their local market. The affiliated dentists and hygienists offer comprehensive, convenient and high quality dental, hygiene and specialty services such as orthodontics, oral surgery, endodontics, periodontics and pediatrics.
Affiliated Dental Groups
Affiliated dental groups operate primarily under one of three brand names, Bright Now! Dental, Castle Dental or Monarch Dental and offices are typically located in highly visible retail centers in some of the largest and fastest growing markets in the U.S.
Affiliated dental groups are operated by legal entities organized under state laws as professional corporations or PCs. Each PC controls a single dental group which employs or contracts with dentists, specialists and hygienists to provide dental services in multiple offices. Each PC is wholly owned by one or more licensed dentists.
Smile Brands Group Inc. was incorporated in Delaware in 2005 for the purpose of acquiring Smile Brands Inc. (formerly Bright Now! Dental, Inc.) and its subsidiaries. Smile Brands Inc. was founded in 1998 through the acquisition of three West Coast support services organizations and grew through the acquisitions of Monarch Dental in February 2003 and Castle Dental in June 2004.
ConsumerHealth, Inc. (dba Newport Dental) is our wholly owned subsidiary that operates as a staff-model dental health service plan licensed by the state of California under the provisions of the California Knox-Keene Health Care Service Plan Act of 1975. ConsumerHealth is considered a “mixed model” plan that provides dental services to its enrollees through its individual, group, and Medicaid product lines and through agreements to service group enrollees of other dental plans. ConsumerHealth owns and operates 14 staff-model dental facilities in California, offering a wide range of general and specialty dental services. In addition, ConsumerHealth employs or contracts directly with each of the dentists, specialists, and hygienists that work at ConsumerHealth facilities.

Smiles for Everyone Foundation
Is a not-for-profit foundation that began in 2004 with a vision to improve the lives of people in the communities served by Smile Brands affiliated offices, as well as to aid victims of natural disasters. Through the generosity of employees, affiliated dental professionals, and company matching funds, the Smiles for Everyone Foundation has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to aid the victims of the Haiti Earthquake, Asian tsunami disaster and Hurricane Katrina.
But the financial support reaches beyond such large scale and notable causes; it also touches individuals in the local communities. In 2005, the American Red Cross recognized the Smiles for Everyone Foundation for its far-reaching humanitarian efforts, bestowing upon the Foundation the prestigious Circle of Humanitarians Award.
Mission Trip to Paraguay
Bright Now! Dental Commits to Bringing Smiles to the World. A team of doctors from Bright Now Dental’s parent company, Smile Brands Inc., recently returned from a mission trip to Asunción, Paraguay in December, 2011. Led by former President & CEO Steve Bilt, the executives and dentists spent 8 days visiting orphanages and nutrition centers, bringing critical dental care to residents who otherwise have no access to basic health services.
Nicknamed SEAL Team One (Service Expedition Accelerating Leaders), the group performed over one thousand extractions and restorations, ultimately helping over 300 Paraguayan children in desperate need of care. Smile Brands Inc. and the Smiles for Everyone Foundation are planning two additional mission trips in 2012, to be announced in the coming months.

I have been working at Smile Brands full-time (More than a year)
This company is amazing. They really believe in making the patients happy and providing a positive, engaging work environment. The benefits here are pretty good and they are very flexible with your work schedule, full time and part time. Managers always help you learn new things and bring out the best in you. This is a place where team work really matters. We also have work events (potlucks, holiday events, etc.) to help encourage team-building. I go home happy every evening and wake up every morning excited for the new days to come.
We could use more variety in our medical benefit choices.
Advice to Management
Keep up the good work by letting your employees grow and learn new things. Always remember to listen to what they have to say and encourage a team-effort type environment. It is always nice to know that we can contribute something, even if it is a little bit. Positive reinforcement is always welcome too :)
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3+ weeks. I interviewed at Smile Brands (Irvine, CA).
Phone interview with internal recruiter, who was very nice. Was set up with an in-person interview for a the next day with the hiring manager. Met the recruiter at the reception desk and was brought to meet the hiring manager. Questions were standard and manager was very professional and easy to communicate with. Brought back for second round of interviews a week later to meet the higher ups, who was also very professional. I received an offer about two weeks after that. Overall, I was impressed with the entire process. The recruiter was quick and efficient, sending me paperwork the same day we spoke on the phone, and answered any questions I had. Background check was pushed through as soon as my second interview round was complete, and offer was sent by recruiter as soon as the check was done and results sent.
