I have been working at Smith Fire Systems full-time (Less than a year)
Management has changed and the new shift has created a more positive company culture. They are willing to work with you when you have personal schedule conflicts and are forgiving when you make mistakes. Company potlucks, birthday Fridays and lunch outings are some of the fun activities that take place. Most people working here are fun and have each other's backs. They offer excellent pay and benefits.
Past management was a definite con but new managers have been hired.
Advice to Management
Continue promoting a positive work environment where employees are supported and encouraged to grow.
I applied online. I interviewed at Smith Fire Systems (Tacoma, WA) in September 2009.
Submit resume online. Most of the people who work there are hired because they know someone else who works there. They try to hire people who are already working within the industry, i.e. competitors. For the field, they have you fill out an application, take a math test, then ask about your experience. For the office, they want people who can handle high volumes of calls and/or work each day. Must pass back ground check, physical and/or drug test for any job at the company, including office work.
You can negotiate anything. Company has policies, but does not adhere to them at all.
