I worked at Smiths Group full-time (More than 3 years)
Opportunity for global experience. Some divisions offer small business experience within a large business. Best of both worlds. Great colleagues for the most part. Very ethical company.
Sometimes UK corp HQ is out of touch with what's needed at foreign sites. Systems integration are lacking.
Advice to Management
"HQ knows best" is not a good philosophy with a portfolio-style holding company.
After applying to Smiths Power, a Smiths Groups company, I was contacted by the hiring manager to schedule an interview. Initially, the interview was scheduled for Skype, but he switched to phone. The second question he asked was when I got my degrees. Clearly, one of his priorities was determining my age. I sent him an e-mail after indicating I would have no further interest.
