    Data Scientist Interview

    Anonymous Interview Candidate

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Snapdocs in May 2020.

    Interview

An internal recruiter reached out to me via email and said I'd be a good fit for their open Data Scientist role. They currently only have 1 Data Scientist within Snapdocs (Series B) and their current work load required extra help. The recruiter said they would send calendar invites for meetings, but I never received any of them. I only received calendar invites from a different person who scheduled meetings with other personnel. *BEWARE* The internal recruiter was also having difficulty with time zones and would only do things in their time zone. So I'd be waiting for a phone call during the agreed upon time in my time zone as per our email, only to have a phone call later when it was that time in the internal recruiters time zone with an apology. Towards the end, I'd just resort to making my own invites with the appropriate time and timezone and send to the internal recruiter myself.

    1) Internal Recruiter Phone Screen - 30 min
    2) Virtual Interview with Director of Engineering - 45 min
    3) Virtual 'On-site' Interview - 4 hrs
    4) Feedback Phone Call - 10 min

The virtual 'onsite' interview had to be pushed back 1 week due to complications of 'employee calendars', though I had already already received a time schedule agenda for 5 different interviews (Product Manager, DofE, DS,Engineering Manager, Operating Principles) . The internal recruiter did provide a general idea of topics that would be discussed during the 'onsite' ahead of time. Once I got to the 'onsite', the order of the interviews were rearranged and they swapped out one interviewer for another, none of which was relayed back to me ahead of time. Also, I was *SURPRISED* with a live coding test, that I was not informed of ahead of time as well. All of these surprises honestly threw me off guard. Overall, I did not feel comfortable during the 'onsite' interview and code test, and it felt that was either an intentional choice or was simply an oversight that lead to an interview not reflective of my capabilities and contributions.
