With Panama roots, her mother made sure she took advantage of every opportunity offered in America, including school. Maria received her bachelor's from Baruch College in 2018 and quickly became the first person in her family to graduate with a degree.

Softheon – Why Work With Us?

Softheon was born from necessity. We came to the rescue of companies, particularly in healthcare, that wanted to be more efficient. Most had an existing process to address their need, but once that process was designed, it was left to age out of usefulness, never to be updated again. That’s where we came in. We were able to provide an external review of these processes and find where they could be more efficient.

Then the Affordable Care Act came along and shook everything up, giving us a new space to thrive in. We took what we were already doing for companies and applied it to both this new space and the already existing healthcare marketplace. We worked with our carriers (and gained a few new ones along the way) so that they could continue to work as they have in the past, but also have access to the new customer base.


In 2000, many people thought Softheon was a crazy idea – providing a faster, better and cheaper technology to enable innovation. But when we implemented Massachusetts Connector - nation’s first state based health insurance exchange, aka Romney Care - in 90-days back in 2008, we knew that health insurance commerce would never be the same again.

Today, our Marketplace and Payment platforms have become ubiquitous parts of Obama Care as over 2.4 million lives receive health insurance through Softheon.  Our addressable market has expanded to the rapidly changing Health Insurance Exchange (HIX) landscape, moreover, it is expected to cover 100 million consumers through public and private exchanges (marketplaces) by 2020.

In 2016, we will enable $1 billion in commerce volume on our Marketplace and Payment platforms for health insurance exchanges.

Softheon operates in a highly competitive and dynamic industry. With technology driving revolution sparked by President Obama’s Affordable Care Act (Obama Care) to insure over 49 million lives, Softheon has become the nationally recognized leading cloud platform by Gartner, IDC, iMerge, AHIP, ACAP, MSEC, and many other respected organizations, analyst firms, and consultants.

We are proud of innovation and disruption we have brought upon the hard work and development of past 15 years and truly excited about the opportunities before us in the next 15 years. Dress Code

For the most part, we have a casual work environment. So, although you may still have to save your favorite old painting T-shirt for when you’re actually painting, you can break out your favorite jeans and sweater. And anything with Softheon branding on it is always a home run. Basically, our dress code is all about common sense. We like to hire smart people here, so if in your best judgement, you think what you’re wearing is appropriate, you should be good to go.

Every now and then, we do have to wear business attire. On these days, you’ll have to shine up your fancy shoes and dust off your dress pants, skirts, shirts and ties. But don’t worry, you’ll always be given advance notice.

Food & Fuel

You’ll never go hungry at Softheon. No need to start pulling out your stretchy pants, though. Along with lunch, snacks, sodas and more k-cups than you could ever drink, you’ll also be offered a free gym membership. Life is all about balance.

When you’re here, help yourself to anything. The fridge is usually stocked with soda, seltzer, juice, redbull and yesterday’s lunch leftovers. There are snacks on the shelves. And, by the Keurigs, (yes, we have two) there’s plenty of coffee, tea, and hot chocolate to keep you chugging along all day.

And if you ever find your favorite drink, snack, or coffee flavor missing, or if you’re craving something that we don’t have, just add it to our white-board-turned-grocery-list on the fridge.

Work Hard & Play Hard

In between running queries and rescuing folders from exception queues, we like to have a little fun. The TGIF committee is a group open to anyone that comes up with fun, stress-free activities to improve your day. They plan outside events; in-office celebrations for exciting events like birthdays, births, special accomplishments, or just because; and bring in groups like yoga instructors and travelling medical centers to help with your overall health and wellness.
