The Latest Sojern News

Sojern Gives Back

We encourage all employees to take up to 40 hours off a year to volunteer, and our Sojern Gives Back program partners with organizations around the world to provide meaningful ways to contribute.

While we are a global company, we focus on making an impact at the local level. Every year, our Sojern Gives Back Regional Directors decide on a theme, like going green, literacy, youth education, or reducing inequality. We then partner with small, local organizations who are looking for volunteers. This allows each office to give directly to the community they are located in!

Sojern Gives Back to Youth Education

Sojernistas continue to show how much you can accomplish with a “win as a team” mentality. We acquired an amazing company, Adphorus, were named Ad Age’s Best Place to Work, and grew like crazy (winning the Deloitte Fast 500 for the fifth consecutive year), all while focusing on give back initiatives in youth education and literacy.

We mentored children in Dublin, prepped middle-school students in New York, led STEAM activities in San Francisco, encouraged physical education in Singapore, read with students in Omaha, and raised funds in London, to name a few.

But my two proudest moments came when we banded together as a global team. The first was during our annual all company SGB event at our Global Conference in Omaha, in which we partnered with United Way of the Midlands to beat our fundraising goal, build 437 literacy kits, and then see the direct impact (and lots of happy kids) by handing them out. Justine Verrier, Associate Sales Executive in Dublin, couldn’t have said it better, “What an incredible global effort. It was so powerful to see all of us working together toward the same goal!” The event truly went to show how we are all connected and how much it meant to those involved – judging from the photos, I couldn’t tell whose smiles were bigger – Sojernistas or the kids.

My second proudest moment came in the midst of the unprecedented number of natural disasters we faced around the world. To see Sojernistas step up and open their hearts – and their wallets – to help those who lost so much was incredible. On the client side, and living up to our “center around the customer” value, a special shout-out to our Tourism and Property Solutions teams, who worked long hours to get our clients back on their feet.

Sojern Voices: Welcome to Dublin

As Dublin’s founding Sojernista, I wanted to take the time to extend a big Céad Míle Fáilte to you all, and tell you about our new office in Ireland’s capital. Dublin has become that hub for the tech companies in Europe, and with the proximity to our London office, as well as the amount of talent available, it’s the perfect place from which to introduce our Property Solutions offering to the European market.

Growing up in the industry

I was raised in the hospitality sector, and my parents always ran businesses related to travel and tourism. Over the course of my childhood we had a hotel, a pub, a cafe, and at one point, a casino!

At university I attended a Hotel Management school in Birmingham where I worked a placement in Marriott’s SE Regional Sales Office in Miami. Not bad for a first gig!

I then cut my teeth working for Jarvis Hotels in the UK and then spent time with Le Meridien and Carlson Rezidor. When I relocated back to Ireland, I worked at Guinness Storehouse, Ireland’s leading visitor attraction.

I actually discovered Sojern while researching for a presentation online, and I knew it was the perfect fit for me. Now I’m learning all about setting up an office and building a team, which is incredibly exciting.

Making Sojern’s mark in Dublin

The Dublin office is located just off Grafton Street, the main street of Dublin, and completely pedestrianised. Here’s an interesting fact for you: Dublin’s postal districts run 1 to 24, and we are in Dublin 2 (D2). Odd postal codes are, for the most part, located North of the River Liffey, and even post codes are located South. We are surrounded by Georgian architecture, lots of greenery, and count Facebook, LinkedIn, and Google as our neighbours.

One of my favourite things about Dublin is that it’s not too far from anywhere. We have an excellent road network from Dublin, so it’s great for weekend breaks. We are a short plane ride from the UK & Europe. And since living in the US and Europe, I’ve found Ireland to be a perfect transatlantic mix—you can see the North American and European influences play together, so I think we’re a pretty worldly bunch.

If you’re up for a new opportunity in our new Dublin office, or any of our offices globally, visit our careers page. I look forward to welcoming you with a pint of Guinness and hope to see you in Ireland very soon.

At Sojern, we take pride in creating a work environment that fosters employee growth and happiness. We are excited to announce that we were voted a top place to work in Omaha in 2018!

Founded in Omaha in 2007, Sojern was recently voted one of the Best Places to Work in Omaha. Located in the “Silicon Prairie”, the number of Sojern employees has quickly grown to over 450, with almost one third working out of our two offices in Omaha. To be voted as one of the best places to work as we continue to grow is truly an honor and something we are really proud of.

Maintaining Company Culture During Massive Growth

In our Omaha offices, Accounting, Ad Operations, Marketing, Product, Sales and more fill our two offices, located a mile apart from each other. With so much growth, we want to ensure we don’t lose the culture that made us such a fun place to work for in the first place. So, all Omaha Sojernistas will be happily reunited under one roof by the end of 2018. We are also dedicated to doing team-building and learning opportunities for our employees, including seasonal happy hours, lunch and learns, Sojern Gives Back events, and an employee favorite here in Omaha—an annual sand volleyball tournament.

Constant Feedback is a Must-Have

Receiving the Best Places to Work recognition is great, but we don’t stop there. We conduct an employee engagement survey quarterly to keep a regular pulse on how everyone is feeling about the company, company growth, thoughts on leadership, their teams, and an opportunity to leave open feedback. All of the responses are reviewed by the leadership team, and then passed on to each manager so that we can maintain employee engagement throughout the year.

Something that we believe plays a huge role in our Omaha office morale is the endless opportunities to grow at Sojern. Brent Brummer, Sojern’s VP Business Strategy & Operations, says, “Leadership at Sojern is very committed to growing employees. Our development programs feed our hiring needs. We promote employees into management roles. And we really like when employees move around to new teams to expose them to new areas of our business and spread ideas around the company.”
