I have been working at SoundCloud full-time (More than a year)
Pros
- Great work culture that emphasizes work-life balance, cultural diversity, and recognition for top performance
- The product is awesome and employees are super passionate about it
- Engineering has solid technical talent and all the teams have passionate, caring, and intelligent people that act as great co-workers
- New management has a clear strategic direction and is extremely transparent
Cons
- The 2017 layoffs negatively affected work culture and workspace, but it's rebounded to a normal place again
- Salary and compensation is market average, company is willing to pay more for C-level executives than recruiting top, new talent (a strategy I disagree with)
Advice to Management
- Keep being transparent with a clear strategic vision and don't get veered off-course by high-effort but low-impact projects
- Pay more for better inbound technical and non-technical talent into the company, as this is the key to increasing product value in the future

Application
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at SoundCloud (New York, NY) in April 2015.
Interview
For this internship position, I had my initial call with the recruiter which was a casual conversation about who I was and why I was interested in working at SoundCloud. After the call, we set up a Skype interview for later that week with 2 managers I would be reporting to, if hired. I was asked about my skills and how I could apply them to the role. Following the Skype interview, the recruiter scheduled another Skype interview the HR director which was similar to the previous Skype interview in terms of the questions I was asked. Following the two Skype interviews, I had one last phone call with the recruiter.
Throughout the process, the recruiter was really nice and constantly kept me up to date with the status of my application, which no other company I applied for an internship at did. Once I was offered the position, the HR department sent me paperwork promptly.
Overall, the process was long in terms of the number of interviews but I now understand why the decision takes time on the company's end; SoundCloud is a growing company attracting talent from around the world. The culture is remarkable and the company is full of the brightest people.
