Our SVP of HR, Leslie Norris, shares some of the ways we are supporting and taking care of employees and their families during this challenging time.
We are so grateful for those on the front lines helping in the fight against COVID-19. From all of us at South Carolina Federal, thank you for your bravery, your dedication and your service.
At South Carolina Federal, we connect remarkable people with exceptional opportunities, and we bring passion to the noble purpose of providing “Life Simplified” ways to improve our members' financial lives. As a Glassdoor Best Place to Work, we're passionate about serving others, and we're proud to deliver an employee-centric environment where people come before profits.
People come to work at South Carolina Federal, and many of them finish their careers here. In fact, our current employee tenure is 9 years, almost twice that of other financial institutions. South Carolina Federal has been selected as one of the Best Places to Work in South Carolina seven times now, and we are #11 on the 2019 Glassdoor Best Places to Work list (small/medium company category).
South Carolina Federal Credit Union has provided convenient financial services since its founding in 1936. Fourteen naval shipyard workers contributed $5, for a total of $70. That small beginning sparked what is now one of the largest credit unions in the country, serving over 160,000 members.
Our employees are only able to perform their best when they feel their best—physically, financially, and emotionally. In an effort to help all our employees thrive, we’re committed to providing some of the best benefits around.
I have been working at South Carolina Federal Credit Union full-time (More than 8 years)
I can't say enough good things about working at South Carolina Federal Credit Union. The organization has prioritized career growth and development for employees. They offer in-house career coaching and lots of opportunities for cross-training, job shadowing, and mentoring.
The benefits are fantastic... 10% match on 401k, zero premium health insurance option, tuition reimbursement, etc. The work/life balance from generous paid time off is amazing. On top of the PTO and paid holidays, we also get time off for our birthday, our work anniversary, for getting an annual physical, for volunteerism, etc.
They also offer many opportunities to get involved with the community... There are so many ways to volunteer and give back to worthy causes.
My favorite thing is that I am now treated as a person, not as a number. Senior leaders and other members of management know me by name, and they take the time to engage with me. They care about me and my coworkers, and they treat us with empathy. The organization also treats its members well, too. People come before profit here, so we are tasked with doing the right thing for our membership rather than just making a sale to earn a dollar. This truly is a best place to work!

Advice to Management
Continue to take care of your people!
I applied online. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at South Carolina Federal Credit Union in December 2019.
The interview process is very thorough, especially for this position. An initial phone call to describe the position and expectations, then a couple behavioral assessments. Once those are complete, a computer simulation, in store interview and then a background screening process.
Doing research beforehand, I knew exactly what to expect throughout the process.
