    Positive Outlook

I have been working at SouthBridge EMS full-time

Pay is good, above average. Health benefits are outstanding, especially for an EMS job. Company covers employees and dependents. There are opportunities to take on additional duties, especially in mentoring new hires. Training program is very thorough. Rigs and equipment are better than you will see at most services. Heavy emphasis on patient care, safety and customer service. Bunks provided for overnight shifts. Minimal posting of units. Southbridge tries to take care of their employees and generally has a good work environment.

Satellite station where crews are stationed is small but is central to response area

    Advice to Management

The management at this service has a great deal of field experience and still spend a good bit of time in the field. The upper management has been in place for 20+ years. Not currently a service where one could move quickly up the ladder, but there is always potential for expansion.

    Paramedic Interview

    Positive Experience
    Average Interview

I applied online. The process took 2+ weeks. I interviewed at SouthBridge EMS (Bridgeville, PA) in July 2012.

Hiring process includes a multiple choice computer test to validate knowledge and critical thinking skills as they relate to EMS care and PA state protocols. Next is a physical test including lifting and carrying of loaded stretchers, stair chairs and equipment - all with timed limits. Two simulated scenarios are provided by management to be completely described and voice treated using EMS knowledge and skills. Finally a panel interview is conducted by the Chief and a couple of supervisors.

    Interview Questions

    • The most difficult question had to be what has prepared you to move into the 911/emergency response sector of EMS care and why do you think that you will succeed at the position of helping people on a day to day basis during their times of most need.   Answer Question

Money was not negotiable but the ability to work as a part time or full time paramedic was an option at the time.
