I have been working at Southern Virginia University full-time (More than 10 years)
Great academic environment. Beautiful campus. Students come from all over the world to be a part of this experience. Have recently restructured to allow more women and faculty to be on the President's Council.
It is still a relatively young campus - since the transition from Southern Seminary, to Southern Virginia College, to Southern Virginia University. Organization and financial restructuring is still a pressing issue but they have the people to improve efficiencies and to make things work.
Advice to Management
Keep looking under the hood and get more constant feedback from students, faculty, staff and alumni. Look for more ways to recruit on the east coast and other areas of the country instead of always focusing on those in Utah and the west. Actively recruiting international students would be a much needed first for this university.
I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Southern Virginia University (Lynchburg, VA) in September 2015.
Phone screen / phone interview was fairly typical overall. Basic "tell me about a time" questions. No review of your personal history, experience, or qualifications. Very 'checklisty' and not very personable. No job description or position details. I had to interject with questions. No offer for questions at the end. Hopefully the face to face interviews would be more professional.
