I have been working at Speed School of English full-time (Less than a year)
I enjoyed the stability of the classes, staff and life in general. The manager Agata was a great person to work with. As well as Tom who had been there for many years and he was a constant source of inspiration and encouragement. I got on well with the students who were friendly. The variation in classes was interesting from teaching Book 1 to Book 4 or conversational. I also taught children which was completely different and unexpected but I think with the right attitude and enthusiasm it was rewarding and important to test your skills.
I unfortunately had to work with a colleague who didn't meet the requirements and one who was sent home before she started. It had nothing to do with the school. Although I still thought Kevin would have picked up on this during training or by the interviews over the phone. Mine lasted an hour but I can talk.
The method could be outdated depending on how you look at it but compared to the Callan method it was much better. I took a book 1 class rapidly through it because people understood the method and it makes sense as long as you repeat it, explain and break down the grammar and correct! I don't think one method makes life easy but I really found it worthwhile if a little served on a plate.
Advice to Management
Retain people by offering higher wages. The facilities are great but a few more refresher courses would be good to make sure all teachers are examined. As I felt although I was doing well, I could have been sat in with more than two or three times during the 6 months. Apparently in Tychy they had video recorded lessons every week or two.
Other than that, keep doing what you do and I wish you the best of luck in the future.
