I have been working at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children part-time (More than 10 years)
Close knit family. All departments interact with each other. Families who have been coming for generations count on familiar faces (which are generally still around).
Just like anywhere else, hospital politics is an issue as well as working through the tough times and retention of staff.
Advice to Management
For nursing management; remember that new nurses need to be precepted by nurses with experience and not other novice nurses. Preceptors should be voluntarily willing to precept and not forced as this makes for a better orientation.
I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children.
I had an initial interview with Human Resources, where salary, shift, benefits, and what would be expected of me as a new hire were discussed. Next, that same day, I interviewed with the nurse manager of the unit. The last step of the interview process involved shadowing a nurse for 4 hours on the unit.
