I worked at State of Colorado Dept of Human Services full-time (More than 8 years)
Meaningful work and work with subject matter experts
Underfunded and historically very poor leadership especially at the office of behavioral health. There were positive exceptions but they never lasted.
Advice to Management
Train people you put in management roles in how to motivate and treat employees
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at State of Colorado Dept of Human Services (Denver, CO).
Human Resources took a long time to complete every aspect of the process. Poor communication. Seemingly arbitrary and non-standardized hiring process & salary levels. Was told "all salaries are non negotiable" except if you were someone they really wanted and then they could come up with extra funding and softening of the non negotiable rule.
