I have been working at State of Minnesota full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work is meaningful, work life balance, flexibility, job security, health insurance, sick and vacation leave, and pension.

    Cons

Lots of contractors in IT positions, salary, not enough transparency, top heavy, not a lot of room for growth or opportunities, workplace bullying, slow pace, and not a lot of young people with fresh ideas.

    Advice to Management

Don't enforce your values and beliefs on your subordinate. Be understanding of others preferences in terms of telecommuting policy. Way too many contractors that get lead positions. Managers should be judged on work performance on how they build their team members into lead and leadership position. Not a lot of support from management to grow.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at State of Minnesota in March 2017.

    Interview

I was contacted about a month after applying for an interview, the interview played 30-45 minutes, my references were then checked, and then I received an offer. The whole process took about 2 months.

    Interview Questions

    • I was asked about process improvement initiatives I've made, HR systems I've used, state law knowledge, and a lot of behavior questions.   Answer Question

    Negotiation

There's no negotiation, but I was very pleased with my offer.
