I was reading about layoffs at Stytch (www.bizjournals.com/sanfrancisco/inno/stories/news/2023/02/27/s-f-startup-stytch-lays-off-25-of-staff.html). Does anybody here know more about the layoffs? Which roles and why? This is a 80 person series B company, funded $90M at $1B valuation. Passwordless is the future and Stytch is popular among developers. What explains the cost cutting?

    1. Technical Product Manager Interview

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Stytch (San Francisco, CA) in Feb 2023

      Interview

Phone screen with a recruiter was nice and somewhat standard. Next step was a 30 minute call with the hiring manager, who was very nice, asked good questions, and seemed good. Next step was a take home assignment case study. It was to review a problem, read the attached code, and write a "one or two page one pager" (sic) proposing a solution to the business problem. It was a pretty amorphous question, without a ton of opportunity to ask questions about it. It was framed as a "learn what its like to work at Stytch" opportunity, by working on a real problem. If that was my opportunity to learn what working at Stytch is like, I am happy to not work there. I spent some time on it, submitted it, and got a rejection with no explanation. With the given instructions, it was hard to know how technical of an answer did they want. A bullet pointed 1 pager? A flow chart? API contracts? Whose to say. It was difficult to know what they wanted. The people seem great, the take home challenge could use some work.
