Best Places to Interview: 2017 (#40)
Each Veterans Day (U.S.) and Remembrance Day (Canada), we recognize the millions of Americans & Canadians who have served their countries. I'm honored that Sunrise has so many veteran team members, as well as residents.
Selflessness, commitment to a mission, and teamwork are just a few of the traits essential to military members as they serve. Our veteran team members exhibit these characteristics every day. I am privileged to work alongside them as we bring meaningful days to every Sunrise resident, including many who have also served.
The article below on The Sunrise Blog tells the stories of a few of the many remarkable veterans who are part of the Sunrise family. Take a moment to read about team members like Nick Odle, who spent 4 years as a driver and gunner in the decorated First Regiment of Cavalry, and Juan Franco, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps for over a decade in nations around the world.
It is an honor to both work with, and serve, our veterans.
Sunrise Senior Living CEO Chris Winkle recently sat down for an informative, wide-ranging interview with industry publication Senior Housing News as part of its Leadership Series. Chris touched on a number of topics, including how he first got involved in senior living, approach to leadership, and how Sunrise is meeting challenges and embracing the opportunities facing senior housing providers today.
"We’ve had very little turnover. We’ve got an 'EDIT' program, which is Executive Director in Training. We’ve got a Department Coordinator In Training," says Chris. "We are always looking at things that we can do to prepare folks for the next day and the future opportunity. It’s going to be about attracting people who think about health care earlier in their progression and see if there’s a career opportunity, long-term."
We invite you to read the full article at the link below, as you consider a future career opportunity with Sunrise.

Sunrise Senior Living
From our early beginnings, Sunrise has fostered a caring, family-like atmosphere for our team members. We work together to deliver the very best care by adhering to our Team Member Credo, which directs team members to embrace diversity, encourage team spirit, and show respect for all.
We often hear from families that upon their first visit to a Sunrise community, they know it’s right because of the “feeling” they get. That feeling comes from our team members, who are dedicated to providing personalized care while being guided by our Core Values: passion, joy in service, stewardship, respect, and trust. Whether it’s joining residents in conversation or introducing visitors to the community pet, our team members make Sunrise home through countless daily interactions.
We are committed to helping team members achieve rewarding personal and professional growth while working in our care-focused environment. We take time to celebrate our successes, while constantly looking forward to new opportunities.
Team members follow customized learning paths designed to develop the particular skills and knowledge necessary to perform their jobs. This high-quality training and development benefits not only our team members but the residents they serve, the families they support, and the communities they lead.

Specially designed, safe, and stimulating environments to care for those with Alzheimer’s, dementia, or other forms of memory loss.
On-call assistance with a maintenance-free, service-rich environment.
Skilled nurses provide onsite, quality clinical care.
Temporary care option offered to families who care for elderly loved ones; also an option for seniors needing extra assistance after a hospital visit or during an illness.

I have been working at Sunrise Senior Living full-time
Good support from management, valued company mission and goals, and great work environment.
Excess work loads and not an ideal work schedule
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Sunrise Senior Living (Sacramento, CA) in May 2017.
It was a group interview. There were 6 of us, and we were asked (individual) questions based on what was written on our resume; basically it was to clarify any questions they had about it. They also gave us scenarios that we had to provide an explanation about what we would do. The interview was only about 30 minutes. At the end, I was taken back to the office and was immediately offered the job and actually shadowed someone on that same day. During their interviews, they're looking at your personality and character over everything! You have to have a personality that fits the company (fun, loving, caring, passionate, hardworking, maybe even silly, enthusiastic, and jovial).
