Super Lucky – Why Work With Us?

Super Lucky is one of the largest independent developers of mobile games.  Headquartered in the SF Bay Area and with offices in Brooklyn, Boise, and Singapore, we have operated since 2011.  Our company is open to remote work, especially in today’s world.

InternalMission:  Super Lucky aims to develop talent that will lead our company to a bright & sustainable future, but will also become noted leaders of the next generation of media, entertainment, and tech companies.

ExternalMission:  Super Lucky aims to build, distribute, and operate best-in-class mobile games to be enjoyed by fans around the world.

We believe in a flat management model, in which everyone is a student and everyone is a teacher.  We DON’T have a lot of meetings.  We DON’T have an opaque hierarchy.  We DON’T celebrate foolish work hours.  We DO focus on doing excellent work and shipping products.  We DO make decisions as a team.  We DO insist upon work-life balance.

Our games are some of the most beloved in the Word, Trivia, and Social Casino genres, with player ratings of 4.9 or better.  We entertain millions of people every day.  We're profitable and we're growing quickly. In 2020, we’ll average about 1 new game per month. Most will fail.  Some will succeed.  That’s how we grow.

Our team’s average tenure is longer than 4 years.  All of our departmental leaders have been promoted from within.  We are proud that many people who’ve found success on our team have been castoffs who didn’t fit in at companies with rigid and outdated corporate structures.

Benefits of working with us!

  • Work schedule flexibilty with possibility to work from home
  • 10 paid vacation days accrued in year one, 15 vacation days accrued in year three
  • 5 sick days per year
  • Paid holidays, bereavements and jury duty leave
  • Employee Assistance program
  • Referral Bonus program
  • Excellent medical, dental and vision benefits
  • FSA, HSA
  • 401K
  • Maternity & paternity leave

Super Lucky Casino was founded by industry veterans from Zynga & Tapjoy. We celebrate autonomy in the workplace and routinely promote from within. All staff is encouraged to grow to be the best versions of themselves, professionally and personally. Every employee is a teacher and every employee is a student.

We strive to maintain 3 concepts:

  • Respectful
  • Professional
  • Laid Back

We like individuals who bring their own flair to the company. We push work-life balance. That means that we work. And that we have lives. We’re happy, healthy, dedicated, and focused.
We believe in moving fast. Not everything is always perfect, but we certainly do push product!

We’re flat. There’s some seniority, but we believe that everyone can be a leader.

We’re a team. We’re all heroes sometimes. We’re all goats sometimes. We deal with it. We move on.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Super Lucky full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The building is near public transit. People are genuinely super nice. The culture is casual, but hard-working. Crunch is NOT a thing here, unlike most other game studios! Management is transparent and looks out for everyone.
I didn't have to do a whiteboard code test for my in-person interview! (probably not a guaranteed thing for all interviewees, but at the very least, they totally understand if you don't personally perform well in those kinds of tests)

    Cons

It can be difficult to get to know people outside of your department. Food and rent in the area is expensive, and seems like it will only continue to get worse.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up! Things only seem to be getting better :)

    Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Super Lucky (San Francisco, CA) in August 2019.

    Interview

    - 3 separate phone screenings, last of which was rescheduled on me twice ~5 minutes prior to the scheduled time.

    - In-office interview: 4 hours, no breaks, no heads-up prior of the length or context (make sure to eat!).

As a developer I was prepared for a mix of technical and psychology evaluations, but the entirety was psych across ~10 people, ending with a 1-on-1 with the CEO, and concluding with the co-founder.
