SusieCakes – Why Work With Us?

CONNECTING THROUGH CELEBRATION

We believe cakes are the hallmarks of celebration and we feel privileged to be a part of life’s special moments.

Our classic treats are made daily by in-house bakers, using the freshest & finest ingredients. Come visit us for delicious, sentimental sweets and a friendly, old-fashioned neighborhood experience.

SUSIE'S STORY

SusieCakes’ founder, Susan Sarich, grew up in Chicago, where she was called Susie by her two beloved grandmothers, Mildred and Madeline.

Every day Susie would come home from school to enjoy her grandmothers’ company over a glass of milk and a fresh baked treat. This daily baking ritual and special time together in the kitchen left a lasting impression. When Susie grew up to become Susan and moved to the West Coast, she brought along her grandmothers’ carefully recorded recipes on handwritten 3×5 cards. The pure and simple connection those recipes fostered helped Susan form SusieCakes bakeries to share her experience with others.

Through SusieCakes, Susan honors Mildred and Madeline: both in her dedication to their baking traditions, and her commitment to providing women with progressive careers in the food & hospitality industry.

“You most likely recall a cake as part of your life’s milestone celebrations. Cake has the unique ability to connect us with the people and events of our past. However, cake should not be reserved only for these special occasions. A delicious slice of cake can immediately bring a bit of celebration to an ordinary day. I hope you enjoy SusieCakes on your special occasions, as well as all the days in between.”

SUSIECAKES DIFFERENCE
If you can’t spell it, we don’t bake with it.
Just like our grandmothers, we do not use any mixes, artificial preservatives, or trans-fats in our products. We bake our products from scratch using only the freshest and finest ingredients.

Susan built the SusieCakes’ business model specifically as one that allows for women and men of all ages to have an opportunity for a progressive career, without having to sacrifice relationships with family and friends or time for one’s self.

Women of her grandmothers’ generation had little choice in what they did, and our bakery’s commitment to equal career opportunities for all honors the sacrifices that generation made for us to have today’s opportunities.

Today, SusieCakes takes pride in offer providing one-on-one training to our team members so that they can fulfill Susan's promise. In our bakeries, you can find career progression, whether you have no experience or are a seasoned professional in our industry.

One of our biggest benefits are our superior hospitality industry hours. Our bakeries are closed late nights and on major holidays including:

  • Thanksgiving Day
  • December 25th-27th
  • New Year’s Day

Our other benefits programs include:

  • Health Insurance (medical, dental, vision, life, LTD, STD)
  • 401(k)
  • Paid time off
  • Pet rescue reimbursement & pet insurance
  • Team member recognition, including milestone incentives
  • Progressive career opportunities
  • Discounts on all our baked goods
  • A free cake on your birthday

Since our founding in 2006, SusieCakes has spent a majority of our marketing budget to supporting community events. From helping local girl scout troops to get their baking patches, to donating gift certificates to local non-profits, to supporting local school fundraisers, to passing out cupcakes to volunteers at events, SusieCakes is there!

Additionally, throughout the years, we’ve donated millions of end-of-day cupcakes & cookies to local charities & food banks (where available).

“We are Good Neighbors” is a core value at SusieCakes and we are extremely proud to be part of our local communities, supporting the causes that are near & dear to our neighborhoods.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at SusieCakes (Los Angeles, CA) in July 2019.

    Interview

I had gotten a call from SusieCakes and was unable to reach back out to them for a few weeks, they were completely understanding about it! Interview was a typical interview, we spent 15 to 20 minutes doing the standard questions and a small “quiz” on measurement equivalencies and methods of baking, very simple questions if you are knowledgeable in baking. Then we did a stage, I executed a few recipes and it was great! All of my questions were answered while I worked, everyone was so friendly and welcoming, felt like I was already apart of the crew! I interviewed on a Thursday, got an offer on Friday, and started that Monday!
