Helping Customers Save Energy and Money for 30+ Years
Synergy Companies’ story begins in 1981 when an enthusiastic group of people from various backgrounds and from across the country got together and began installing insulation and providing other energy efficiency services to homeowners in California. This pioneering group of bright-minded and environmentally conscious people went door to door, working with homeowners, apartment managers, business owners— anybody who could make a difference for our planet and economy—to become energy efficient and environmentally proactive. Interacting one-on-one with customers, this group quickly discovered the importance of a simple principle that has become the company motto: “We Treat People Right!”
In 1982 they formed Synergy Companies, a full-service energy management organization headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area. They soon began working with the major California and western states utilities, such as Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Southern California Edison, Southern California Gas Company, San Diego Gas & Electric, PacifiCorp, Rocky Mountain Power, and Nevada Energy, to bring energy efficiency and environmental services to the utilities’ end-use customers. As a trusted and reliable partner of the utilities, Synergy continues to provide these services today, leading the way to energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.
From 1982 to the present, this same pioneering group, plus a new generation of visionaries, has continued to work closely with customers to meet their energy conservation needs. The National Association of Energy Service Companies (NAESCO) is a national trade association which has been promoting the benefits of the widespread use of energy efficiency for over 25 years. Synergy is an active member of this organization, holding a seat on their National Board of Directors.
Synergy is actively involved with the efforts of EGIA. EGIA is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions through the home improvement and renewable energy industries.
CBPCA is California’s leader in delivering integrated training and certification programs in comprehensive retrofit topics from building shell integrity and system-based HVAC upgrades to business, marketing, and sales. CBPCA is one of the California’s two active HERS providers certified by the California Energy Commission.
The Building Performance Institute, Inc. (BPI) is the nation’s premier standards development and credentialing organization for residential energy efficiency retrofit work. They are helping build an industry, create a workforce, and support programs through professional certification, contractor accreditation, and quality assurance services.
Synergy is an active member of IHACI. The Institute of Heating and Air Conditioning Industries, Inc. is a non-profit trade association of contractors, manufacturers, distributors, utility firms, and related businesses actively engaged in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and sheet metal industries.
CalCERTS, Inc. was approved by the California Energy Commission to become a Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Provider in 2003. They provide service, support, training and certification to HERS raters.
ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping us all save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices.
Energy Upgrade California ™ (EUC) is a statewide program made possible through an alliance among California cities, counties, investor-owned utilities, and public utilities. Energy Upgrade CA provides a number of services and benefits, including education and outreach, contractor training, and customer rebates for eligible energy upgrades.

company has gotten so big, training new techs is becoming an issue.
Advice to Management
Have few techs trainera so that new texhnitians get train right feel trust in their work, now its like you have to rush through your schedulle and sometimes dont have time to properly show new techs all that we do, they should trainers have shorter schedulle so they can take their time and explain and properly train new techs, but not have to be punish moneteraly by having less jobs, maybe adjust pay accordingly for people that train.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Synergy Companies (San Leandro, CA) in August 2015.
They called me to come in. I sat down and they basically went over my resume, asked me why I would be good for the role, and actually went through the decision-making in front of me (partly). The same interview was 1-1 and then 2-1. On my ride home, they called me and said they wanted me to start the next day if possible.
