We find that very commonly our best hires are from employee referrals, so we thought we'd share a bit of what our employees say:

“I face challenges almost every day that require me to improve my problem-solving skills. I also enjoy the company of my coworkers; they're people that I would spend time with outside of work.”

“I like that you don't have to go through ‘corporate’ to get things done. It's a small company so ideas and opinions are taken into consideration by the leadership team and actually implemented. You have a voice here. I like that everyone knows you, it's a collaborative environment, people are friendly and willing to help you out.”

“There is a lot of autonomy and no micromanagement. People are trusted to do their jobs well. I also feel like there is much less office politics and more focus on the work.”

“The location in Hunt Valley is really convenient. Wegmans and the other shops in Hunt Valley are close by. There are lots of restaurants within a few miles and there is also the convenience of a cafeteria, a fitness center, dry cleaning, childcare center, and a post office within the building.”

“The work environment is pretty relaxed. It's really easy for me to walk into the CEO's office and get his input on a sales opportunity or project proposal. If I have a family crisis and show up to work late, it's not a big deal because managers and coworkers are understanding.”

“Great teams to work with, flexibility in work schedule, independence, ability to work on large scale projects. Wonderful, awkward birthday parties to look forward to.”

“I've built good relationships with coworkers and managers who seem to be genuinely interested in and invested in my growth and success.”

Josh Crone

Vice President and CTO, Software Products

Leads the overall design, development, and support of SAI’s software products portfolio. He complements his high-tech professional interests with low-tech personal interests including blacksmithing, weightlifting, and bass guitar.

Josh Crone has more than a decade of experience as a leader in technology. Prior to joining SAI, Josh served as Vice President of Technical Services at Penguin Random House. In this role, Josh provided strategic direction and practical guidance for all aspects of technology. He has extensive experience in the design, implementation, and support of several large-scale web, e-commerce, and back office applications for both internal and external clients.

At SAI, we believe that technology should be a catalyst to outstanding performance, not an impediment. From the software products that we develop and deliver — Acadia and SiteExecutive — to our IT, Digital and Marketing consulting services, we find the best and simplest solutions to our clients' business challenges. From our flagship office in Hunt Valley, Maryland, we serve clients across North America in the commercial, higher education, government and healthcare sectors.

I have been working at Systems Alliance full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Joining the SAI Digital team has been a great career decision for me. There is a lot of room for growth for motivated, passionate, hard-working individuals. The workplace vibe is professional, but everyone knows how to have fun, too. Everyone is just generally really nice.

This is a great environment to work in if you enjoy collaboration and working as part of a team. We work hard to meet our project timelines and deliver flawless work to our clients.

Despite the fast pace and deadline-driven environment, there is tremendous amount of support and flexibility for outside responsibilities—e.g. having a family, needing to pick up a sick child from school, etc. Leadership is supportive, but also the team itself. I've never been made to feel guilty for needing to balance outside obligations with work, which is rare in the corporate world.

Perks: casual dress code, breakfast on Fridays, personal laptop, and company-paid health insurance. Traveling to various cities across the US to visit client sites is a great opportunity, too. Also the Digital team is pretty freakin' fun to work with. :)

    Cons

Company culture vs. team culture varies due to lack of a cohesive overarching SAI brand. At times it is difficult to see where SAI Digital fits into the SAI organization.

Limited paid holidays; the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve should be included, in my opinion. Benefits for dependents an d families is not competitive.

    Advice to Management

Continue to support employees' desire to grow through funding professional development opportunities. Consider adding additional paid holidays.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Systems Alliance (Hunt Valley, MD) in September 2017.

    Interview

It started off with an email to answer a series of 6 questions out of 10. Once that was completed we moved towards a phone interview with another series of questions on HTML, CSS, SQL. After that was through an in person interview was scheduled and I proceeded through a 2 hour interview meeting with many individuals throughout the process. The questions asked were also based on web technologies, Java programming language as well as general questions regarding handling customers, and individuals
