Ivy Lozano

What’s your role at TG?

I am currently an Analyst for the Adjustments team in Collections.

How is TG different from other workplaces, and why do you like it?

Before I joined TG just over seven years ago, I had only worked with small businesses. When I came here, I was concerned that I wouldn’t be able to have the same close-knit work relationships that I had with my previous employers. I was surprised at the community that TG has and how close I was able to work with anyone as long as I put forth the effort to meet people. The people are still my favorite part!

What’s a typical day like for you?

My mornings are pretty hectic! I come in at 7 a.m. and start on queries and reports, sending some to my team so that they have their work when they get in. I field phone calls from my team regarding issues with processing. I interact with team members and team leads on the default recovery side to sort out concerns and questions. The best part of this is that today is never going to be like yesterday; I love it!

What’s your or TG’s philosophy when it comes to dealing directly with clients?

I get to deal with TG’s vendors on a day-to-day basis. I try to make myself as available to them as possible with the mindset that the faster I resolve their issues, the faster they are able to help our borrowers.

How does your team, including your manager, support each other?

We are always backing each other up, whether it’s because someone is on vacation or because they just need a hand. We are in a constant state of learning and teaching so that everyone has an opportunity to know what everyone does. There are always extra hands available to complete the job. I appreciate the opportunity to cross train, and really like the commitment to teamwork. 

Is there anything about your job that people might find surprising?

I think some people might find it surprising that there is a lot of extra footwork needed to close these accounts for collections. Between rehab accounts and consolidations to interest rates and database updates, we process a lot of it manually to ensure correct postings and proper closures.

Do you have any advice for new hires?

Every workplace has challenges. Glassdoor certainly highlights the opinions of a few negative people; don’t let it influence you. Take a step back and look at everything through your own eyes and create your own opinions based on solid information.

Artie Ellis


How long have you been at TG? What’s your role here?

I’ve been a part of the TG family for just over six years, and I’m currently a Default Recovery Team Lead. I started off as a Default Recovery Specialist and worked hard to advance to a Team Lead. I had some great mentors when I was coming up through the ranks. They made time for me and gave me the necessary tools to grow at work and in life. I’m truly grateful for each of those mentors.

What does your typical day look like?

My day revolves around motivating my team members to reach their highest potential in customer service and achieve their individual goals. I’m clear and concise with them. Everyone is different in how they respond to coaching. Understanding one’s team is vital in coaching. Understanding each individual allows your team to thrive in changing times.

What is the most interesting part of your job?

I get to work with a group of individuals who don’t hesitate to lend a hand when needed. When we accomplish a task, we do it together. Every team meeting is focused on accomplishing our goals. By keeping our mindset focused on a target, we learn and develop together, which brings us closer.

What’s the hardest part about your job? What’s the best part?

I would say the variety of day-to-day challenges. No two days are the same. But rising to each unpredictable challenge develops experience and growth in an upward direction. One of the best parts of my job is working with a great group of people who genuinely care about helping our customers. We are all one team working towards the same objective.

What does TG do to make this a fun place to work?

TG does many wonderful things for their staff. A few times during the year we have lunch as a whole to bring everyone together. We also have “Lunch and Learn” events where employees can gather new ideas from experienced staff to help them develop.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about coming to work for TG?

TG is a place that gave me the opportunity to become a professional, to take my career to the next level. I gained experience in a fast-paced work environment that’s challenging and goal-driven.

Do you have any advice for new hires?

If you are looking to advance your career as a professional, look into what TG has to offer. The experience you will get from TG is unmatched, and you will appreciate the level of growth later in your own personal life.

And lastly: what’s your favorite pizza topping?

This is an easy one. Bacon!!!

Bob Ugiansky

Bob Ugiansky, Web Manager, has seen his role at TG evolve. For years, he oversaw TG’s public service website (, which provides students information about how to plan and pay for college. These days, Bob’s also part of the planning and developing TG’s new ventures.

Can you give us a brief overview of the company?

The company is very dynamic. Some areas support call services for student loans, but we’re also exploring and building up new businesses and services.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about coming to work for TG?

If you are familiar with TG, you may have to forget what you know and ignore outdated comments. Things are changing as we expand beyond student loan and education-related services. The company is interested in growth and you should think about how you can be part of it, and get excited about it. You’ll be stepping into a company that’s reinventing itself and confident about it.  Be optimistic about the future and you’ll have a good time. Don’t just fit in — stand out!

What does your typical day look like?

As part of a small web team, I help create websites and web tools to support our businesses and provide general communication support. I have a lot of creative thoughts that I like to share and I get the opportunity to do so.

What is the most interesting part of your job?

The most interesting are brainstorming meetings. They often involve exploring new messaging or ways to deliver those messages. We get a chance to throw every idea out there, and we inspire each other.

What have you learned in your time at TG?

I’ve learned the value of resilience. Business changes, no matter where you are. It’s important to learn new things that might make an impact, to never stop trying, and to keep moving forward.

Is your work collaborative?

There’s a lot of collaboration. To update the company intranet, I need input from all areas. In my department, I work with the web team, writers, and designers to put together some great messaging and campaigns – both internal and external.

Is your department open to input about new ways to do things?

They are definitely open to new ideas, especially when they’re creative and innovative. I’ve suggested and helped create a few online games that we’ve used to make training fun. We’ve also developed interactive holiday cards, and added a ton of efficiencies on our websites.

What’s the culture like?

Did you read the short story “Who moved my cheese?” Well, our cheese has been moved. The people I work with are getting pumped by learning about new markets, new strategies, and new ideas. We were experts in one market and now we have the opportunity to become experts in many more industries. Mmmmm … cheese.

What is a typical day like?

I start each day all cleaned up and ready to work. It takes me about five minutes to get warmed up, and then I'm eager to please. In my job, demand comes in batches. I'm busiest just before lunch and in the afternoon.

Why did you choose TG?

I considered being a hipster street cart but I would have had to go downtown each day. Have you seen the traffic? A movie theater sounds glamorous, but don't even get me started about the hours! Here I get my weekends and evenings off which I like. To me it's important to cool down once and a while. I also have benefits here like a health plan (my warranty), PTO (popping time off), and a 373K plan (everyone else gets a 401k, but that would burn my kernels).

What is the workplace like?

It's busy and productive most of the day. When the break room is quieter, the TV and the vending machines keep me company. Sometimes the ion filtered water machine brags about how fresh the water is when I wish it would just chill (something it's great at besides purifying). My popcorn has whole grain fiber and antioxidants so I feel good about being here. We all work together to make this a great place.

Do you have any advice for new hires?

It might sound corny, but be amazing at what you do. Don't be too salty, and make sure you smell great (people seem to like that). Focus on quality and good taste. Put in a good day, each day, and you'll be appreciated.

    I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at TG (Austin, TX) in August 2015.


    Phone screen with recruiter, the phone interview with hiring manager, followed by travel to Austin Texas for an all day interview with several members of the management and staff. It was an intense all day experience.
